This Starfield mod finally breathes new life into Akila City, making it “massive and densely detailed”

As of last week, you can download a great new mod for Starfield from NexusMods that adds ‘numerous new buildings, district (sic), and interactive elements’ to one of the major hubs in the game: Akila City, home of the Freestar Collective.
Bethesda games have often been a fertile ground for modders, with Skyrim being one of the most modded games of all time. Given Starfield’s less-than-terrific reception upon release, it’s a particularly worthy target for improvement by the gaming community at large, and we’ve seen some great ones like various Star Wars-inspired mods, plus more generally functional ones like Seamless City Interiors.
This Akila City Rises mod looks to be another corker. You can see the details of what’s included in the video below.
Of the various criticisms laid at the feet of Starfield following its release, the sterility and bland appearance of some of the environments was a fairly big one. Many of the planets you rock up to in your spacecraft are procedurally generated, the downside of which is that they lack the detail of the artistically designed areas in other Bethesda Games.
Major story hub areas, of course, were not procedurally generated, though they did often lack a bit of depth – both visually and in terms of the ways you can interact with the environment. Akila City was one of the better locations in terms of visual interest in our opinion; however, it still didn’t quite have the depth to feel like a proper living settlement – certainly not one you’d expect in an AAA game.

The list of changes this mod brings
The following are the major changes that the Akila City Rises mod brings. It’s also recommended that you install the ‘Winds of Akila’ mod afterwards as well, as the two complement each other very well. Winds of Akila adds discarded clutter and trash, additional details, plus enhanced smoke and wind effects.
- A new river winds through the city
- New buildings
- New pathways through the city
- Reshaping of terrain
- More vegetation
- Myriad small visual touches
- Interactive elements
Although Akila may seem small at first glance, the city is massive and densely detailed, offering players a rich and immersive environment to explore. Because of its scale and intricacy, it is a true experience for any adventurer.
