Winhanced, the popular Xbox Full-Screen Experience (FSE) alternative for Windows handhelds, has just received a major public update. After initially being available only to paid members, version 0.9.2.7 is now live and free for all, and it brings one of the biggest feature drops yet, including console-style Quick Resume and auto-tuned performance profiles for several major games.

Smart Profiles, otherwise known as AutoPilot, are a major addition. This system automatically applies optimized performance settings when you launch supported games. Winhanced can adjust things like TDP and resolution to deliver the best balance between performance and visuals. When you exit the game, your system settings return to normal. Users can choose between Auto, Performance, or Quality modes depending on their preference.

What does version 0.9.2.7 offer?

At launch, Smart Profiles support eight major titles, including Forza Horizon 5, Elden Ring, Cyberpunk 2077, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, Helldivers 2, Hogwarts Legacy, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and God of War. The system also works with games that share common Steam folder structures, expanding compatibility beyond the initial list.

Smart Profiles (AutoPilot)

Smart Profiles bring automatic, per-game optimization to Winhanced. When you launch a supported title, Winhanced detects it and applies a tailored performance profile — adjusting TDP, resolution, and more — so you get the best experience without manual tuning. When the game exits, your settings return to normal.

Available Modes:

  • Auto (Recommended): Intelligently balances performance and quality based on your hardware and power state.
  • Performance: Prioritizes frame rate and responsiveness.
  • Quality: Prioritizes visual fidelity for a cinematic experience.

Set your preference globally in Performance Settings. Toast notifications alert you when a Smart Profile is applied or changes during gameplay.

AutoPilot Smart Profiles launch with support for:

  • Forza Horizon 5 (Game Pass)
  • Elden Ring (Steam)
  • Cyberpunk 2077 (Steam)
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered (Steam)
  • Helldivers 2 (Steam)
  • Hogwarts Legacy (Game Pass and Epic)
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (Steam)
  • God of War (Steam)

Smart Profiles also support games that share a common Steam folder structure, expanding compatibility beyond this initial list. Future updates will include per-game settings and the ability to re-run setup.

Another one of the headline features is Quick Resume. Just like on an Xbox console, users can now run multiple games at the same time and switch between them instantly. Winhanced freezes game processes directly in RAM, allowing you to jump back into a suspended title exactly where you left off. There are no load screens or restarts. It even works if you launch games directly through Steam, Xbox, or Epic, as long as Winhanced is running in the background.

The update also introduces the new Status Pill, which replaces the old power and minimize icons. It acts as a central hub where users can switch between active sessions, search across multiple game libraries, manage Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, control system power options, and access a per-app volume mixer. There’s also an advanced battery monitor with usage graphs.

Beyond new features, version 0.9.2 includes dozens of stability improvements and bug fixes. Sleep mode stability has been improved, memory leaks during alt-tabbing have been resolved, and overall library loading performance has been optimized. Device support has also expanded, with added detection for Legion Go 2 and improved support for GPD devices.

An early bug has already been resolved

The team behind Winhanced also shared yesterday that version 0.9.2.7 initially included a bug that could cause issues for some users. In certain cases, the bug could cause the overlay to fail to appear after launching a game or prevent AutoPilot Dynamic TDP from functioning properly.

On top of that, when closing a game, it could cause the overlay to get stuck on a launching screen indefinitely. However, the developers have already fixed the issue, and a patch is now available through the in-app update center for those who already installed the update.
