Resolution
While you can play Xbox Series X on a 1080p TV, we’d recommend going for 4K. Right now, you’ll only really find 1080p TVs under 42 inches, and at that point, you should really consider a gaming monitor instead. As for 8K, we’d say even the best 8K TVs are fairly unnecessary at the moment. It’s predicted that 8K gaming won’t be around for a good few years, maybe even several, so there’s no real need to even futureproof.
Refresh rate
Put simply, you want 120hz if you want 120 frames per second. Xbox Series X will work fine with 60hz TVs too, but you’re missing out on the next-gen experience.
Motion rate
Don’t confuse motion rate with refresh rate. A 120 motion rate uses technology to make lower frames per second content appear higher in the way that 4K TVs can upscale 1080p content to appear in higher definition. Just save yourself the hassle and go for a 120hz refresh rate TV.

Generation of TV
Over the past three years, we’ve seen an influx of HDMI 2.1-compatible TVs. The differences between generations are often very slight to the untrained eye. We’d heavily advise looking at older generation TVs from 2021 if you want to save some serious cash and still get an amazing experience with Xbox Series X. The LG C1 in particular is still amazing!
