When it comes to Samsung TVs in particular, it can be a little confusing as to where to start, especially since they have almost created a new ‘language’ for much of their new technology. Before you make your final decision, you’ll want to factor the following into the equation.
Refresh rate
This is a simple one. If you want 120fps at 4K, you’ll need a 120hz refresh rate. If you want 60fps at 4K, you’ll want a 60hz refresh rate. 120hz TVs are more expensive than 60hz, and are best for those who want a TV for gaming – specifically, if they’re looking for the best TV for Xbox Series X or the best TV for PS5.
120hz TVs also make for the best TVs for watching sports, as the higher the refresh rate the smoother the picture will look.
Panel type
Samsung’s panel types can be very confusing, so here’s what everything actually means.
Samsung QLED TVs
These are Quantum Dot LED TVs. They’re brighter and offer better contrast and color than typical LED sets.
Samsung Neo QLED TVs
These TVs are the evolution of QLED, and instead of using a typical backlight, use mini-LEDs instead. This means they have more dimmable zones and are more precise than QLEDs when it comes to brightness and contrast control.

Budget
Samsung TVs are more expensive than most brands and are in line with the likes of LG and Sony in terms of pricing. The price jumps up with higher refresh rates and more advanced panel technology, but we’d recommend coming armed with around $700 – $1300 to ensure you’re getting the most bang for your buck. Any less, and we’d recommend looking at the likes of TCL, Hisense, and Vizio who offer, we think, a little more at the lower price range.
