TikTok has just announced its new AI chatbot, so what is Tako? Tako is an AI-powered assistant that will help users with search and discovery on the platform.
TikTok has confirmed that this new feature is currently in its testing phase and is only available to a select group of users in the Philippines.
On Twitter, they said this: “We’re in the early stages of exploring chatbot tools with a limited test of Tako with select users in the Philippines. Tako is an AI-powered tool to help with search and discovery on TikTok. Tako is powered by a third-party chat assistant and is designed to help make it easier to discover entertaining and inspiring content on TikTok. No current plans for this beyond these early tests, but we’re excited to hear your feedback!”

What can Tako do?
Tako acts similarly to a personal assistant. By interacting with the chatbot you will be able to request reel recommendations, covering a variety of different topics. Interacting with Tako is very similar to any other AI chatbot such as ChatGPT. Simply type in your request and Tako will respond in a conversational manner.
Some fans already have access to this new AI chatbot and have spilled the beans on what users could expect. Daniel Buchuk from Watchful Technologies revealed in an early access post what this chatbot can do. According to Buchuk, Tako can help you discover new content on the platform.
Alternatively in his own words: “If I’m watching food videos and ask for a recipe, I’ll get related TikTok videos for the recipe, or if I ask for good art exhibitions in Paris, it’ll show videos alongside a list of suggestions in the answer”.
