We continue to monitor the SSD market for silver linings, and we’ve spotted one in the Samsung 990 Evo Plus 2TB. The model has just dipped to a lower price on Amazon than we’ve spotted since April, which is something of a positive. Now at $357, the SSD is even further away from its painful May spike of $465. And while not as low as we’d like, this drive is worth considering if you absolutely need to buy an NVMe SSD.

Why we’d pick the Samsung 990 EVO Plus SSD 2TB

Good speed

Samsung SSDs are perhaps the most well-known models on the market. The 990 Evo Plus 2TB sits below the newly released 990 2TB, which itself sits below the 990 Pro 2TB. However, the Evo’s 7,250MB/s (read) and 6,300MB/s (write) specs are speedy, and you will certainly notice the shift if you’re upgrading or building a new system.

PCIe 4.0 and PCIe 5.0

Samsung’s EVO Plus range is compatible with both PCIe Gen 4.0 (x4) and PCIe Gen 5.0 (x2). While PCIe Gen 5.0 lanes are backward compatible, the adaptability of the Evo Plus 2TB means that it can deliver optimized performance regardless of what type of lane it is installed into.

Strong efficiency

The Evo Plus 2TB counts excellent power efficiency among its positive traits. That could be key if you’re specifically looking for a laptop upgrade or replacement boot drive. Or if you’re simply keen on an efficient desktop PC environment.

What to consider before you buy

Beyond the fact that SSD prices are inflated (in general) in 2026, Samsung SSD drives do usually have a premium. So, while you can choose between the 990 Pro, 990, or 990 Evo Plus models, you will most certainly pay that for buying a Samsung drive. That makes sense since Samsung’s reliability and component quality make its creations some of the best NVMe SSDs on the market. However, if you’re considering the cost of the Evo Plus 2TB, the Lexar NM790 2TB is a value-driven alternative available for a lower price.
