Earlier this month, AMD launched the much-awaited Zen 5 CPUs, and for a while now, users have been awaiting the X870 & X870E motherboard release date to go with them. From the looks of it, companies like ASUS have already started manufacturing motherboards, and we might see them hit the market very soon.
In fact, users might have to wait only a few weeks, as the embargo for reviews of the AMD X870E motherboard is September 30th according to a source with hands-on with the new board, snapping a few photos while they’re at it. These new AM5 motherboards are the first following Zen 5, as the cheaper B850 chipset may have to wait until next year.

According to Kenny, a reviewer on Bilibili, people have received the new AMD X870E motherboards, but they are not allowed to share the actual experience until September 30th. In other words, buyers will have to wait till the specified date to read about how the new motherboards perform with the Ryzen 9000 series CPUs.
“The newly launched X870 series motherboards for AMD Ryzen 9000 series processors are finally available. According to the official time specified by AMD, the motherboard can only be unboxed and basic specifications introduced without lighting on August 20, 2024. The official user experience sharing will be released on September 30, 2024. (So don’t ask about the sharing of actual use),” Kenny wrote (translated from Chinese).
However, Kenny shared specifications and photos of the new motherboard, as the embargo on sharing pictures was lifted on August 20th. The motherboard in the pictures is the upcoming ASUS ROG Strix X870E-E Gaming WiFi that is based on AMD’s flagship chipset X870E.
Judging by the pictures posted, it looks like the new motherboard will introduce major changes to the M.2 slots, tweaks to PCI-E expansion slot design, offer native support for USB 4.0, and have WiFi 7 support.
Even though the motherboards were showcased last week, the actual performance will be revealed next month. Further, there has been no confirmation about the prices, and we don’t have an exact release date.
In case you missed it, AMD released the Ryzen 9000 series processors earlier this month, on August 8th and August 15th. The four CPUs are the company’s new lineup of mainstream desktop CPUs.
