First things first, gaming on a laptop’s integrated graphics generally isn’t the way most people like to enjoy PC gaming. However, you may be surprised by the level of performance you can get from some of these mobile chips these days. We’ve come across two different tests featuring two rival top-tier iGPUs: the AMD Radeon 890M and Intel Arc 140V.
Intel reportedly called the 140V the ‘world’s fastest integrated GPU’ but it looks like Team Red has outclassed them with the 890M, at least based on a couple of new benchmark videos posted online. Team Blue’s Lunar Lake CPU seems to struggle in particular with older titles such as Tomb Raider (2013) running on DirectX 11; the game also supports DirectX 9.

AMD Radeon 890M iGPU outperforms Intel Arc 140V
Both of these quick tests come courtesy of the YouTube channel AMD APU Gaming. Keep in mind that we’re not talking about gaming laptops here, but instead the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Aura and ASUS Vivobook S16, fitted with Intel and AMD hardware, respectively.
Game | Radeon 890M (Ryzen AI 9 HX 370) | Arc 140V (Core Ultra 7 258V) |
---|---|---|
God of War (2018) 1080p original | 40-54 FPS | 29-45 FPS |
Tomb Raider (2013) 1080p max | 54-86 FPS | 16-39 FPS |
It’s also worth noting that AMD has been boasting excellent gaming performance in these lightweight laptops with additional help from frame generation tech. We’ve seen that AFMF 2 makes integrated graphics viable for gaming, following some AMD-published results featuring the AI 9 HX 370 chip. The driver-level feature is perfect for mobile hardware like this, as it doesn’t require the dedicated AI accelerators you’ll find on modern discrete GPUs.
To compare, the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 sits just behind the HX 375 flagship, using the exact same 890M iGPU with 16 Compute Units and 2.9 GHz clock speed. The Intel CPU being tested here is the Ultra 7 258V, a few SKUs away from the flagship Ultra 9 288V. Even still, the Ultra 7 model uses the same Arc graphics solution with 8 Xe cores, albeit with a lower 1.95 Ghz max clock compared to the Ultra 9’s 2.05 GHz.
Should you pick AMD over Intel for laptop gaming?
If you’re focusing on gaming, you should (ideally) be seeking out one of the best gaming laptops out there. However, these will be more expensive than your average laptop or notebook which are supported by integrated graphics. Gaming laptops offer a dedicated graphics card at a premium price.
If your budget restricts you to something more modest, or you just don’t need anything over-the-top, then we’d check out a new laptop featuring one of AMD’s latest Ryzen AI 300 series processors. These benchmarks suggest that they’re a top pick right now, and they have the potential to go further thanks to AFMF 2 support.
