ASUS’s ROG Astral graphics cards are known for offering a beefier design and overclocked performance compared to Nvidia’s Founders Edition cards. And now, a leak shows that a ROG Astral 5090D extreme overclock BIOS could have a power limit of just over 2000W.

Needless to say, the RTX 5090 is the most powerful graphics card on the market right now. Nvidia’s flagship card actually comes in two forms – the 5090 and 5090D. The latter is for the Chinese market with cut-down AI specs, and a v2 model is expected to launch soon. While the BIOS has been listed for the 5090D, it may be compatible with the regular 5090 model sold in the West.

This follows recent news of a GALAX HOF RTX 5090D extreme overclock BIOS that pushes the power limit up to 2001W (as reported by VideoCardz). However, that variant of the card is not widely available outside of China, so the new ROG Astral XOC (extreme overclock) BIOS may prove to be an in for extreme overclockers outside of the region.

We should note that this kind of XOC BIOS is not designed for everyday users, nor do we recommend trying to flash it. Furthermore, TechPowerUp even notes that it’s an “unverified BIOS file,” so download it at your own risk and make sure you have a backup if you do intend to use it. You’ll need sufficient cooling and the correct cables for the 12V-2×6 power connector, which is limited to 600W at its usual spec.

Users on Overclock.net forums spotted this upload a few days ago, so we’re keen to see what the enthusiasts can do with it, even if the 2000W mark is unlikely to be reached. A few weeks ago, the ROG Astral RTX 5090 “smashed” a Port Royal high score via extreme overclocking, though it was soon beaten by the cut-down China model a week later. To be pushing this much power, extreme cooling solutions are required – this usually means a healthy dose of liquid nitrogen.
