You may remember Fallout: London, a fan-made modification of Fallout 4 that was released towards the end of July this year following a bunch of delays. At launch, plenty of people were running into performance issues or game crashes that may have made them think: let’s just wait until it’s fixed. Well, now that ‘Official Patch 1.02’ is here and available to download, we think it’s the perfect time to give it another go.

Installing Fallout London requires a little bit of effort, with the GOG version offering the simplest solution. Even Steam Deck players can install the mod. The new 1.02 patch is available via both GOG and Steam or for those using the Mod Manager.

What’s new in the update?

It will take a while to cover absolutely everything in the update, so we can give you a rundown of some of the biggest changes in version 1.02. Major issues have been resolved such as the following:

  • Fixes for save corruption/save file issues in Islington World, Dump World, IWM World, and St. Paul’s World.
  • Various random/repeatable crashes and previsibility issues related to Previsbine (PRP) regeneration
  • Bug fixes for a massive amount of quests
  • ‘Hundreds of fixes’ to many world spaces and boroughs

The patch was released on October 18th and the easiest way to follow the mod’s progress is via the Team FOLON Discord server or by following Real-time Changelogs. Upon releasing the new patch, the development team shared that the mod is “very close to being redeemed more than 1,000,000 times” and the changes may finally allow them to hit that milestone.

How to install the update

Despite being a mod, gaining enough traction to get a standalone release has allowed Fallout: London to be easily patched. If you’re not using a mod manager, you can simply follow the steps below. With a mod manager, you will have to manually replace previous files, zip the new version, and reinstall via the mod manager.

  • Update Fallout: London in your GOG library
  • Press ‘Play’
  • Press ‘Update’ in the game’s launcher

There’s also a fix for AMD GPU users

A couple of days following the announcement of the patch, a developer on the game, Darren Grey, shared a fix for video crashes or freezes that some AMD users may run into. In this Reddit thread, they describe it as a “consistent issue” with “certain AMD cards”. Luckily, there’s a fix that involves DXVK, a Vulkan-based translation layer.

The new fix has been tested internally and the developers are looking for more feedback moving forward. You can follow the steps in this document, from downloading DXVK to further troubleshooting.
