There have been speculations about MediaTek working on a custom chip for the AI PC market for a while now. And when it announced that Nvidia would be collaborating with MediaTek for the AI chip, the hype around the new SoC (System-on-a-Chip) was obvious.
Previous speculation would lead us to believe that Nvidia would make an announcement as soon as Computex – but that has long gone. As per a new report, MediaTek and Nvidia will be working together on the upcoming AI PC and roll it out in the first half of 2025.

According to the same report, the two manufacturers are aiming to complete the design in the third quarter and verify it in the fourth quarter of 2025. If everything goes as scheduled, we will see the AI-powered PC chip early next year. It has been speculated that the new AI PC SoC is likely to feature a 3nm processor from TSMC and may be built upon the ARM architecture, unlike many current designs, which are based on the x86 architecture.
Considering that Nvidia is known for its AI-accelerated graphics cards, we may see an impressive integrated GPU solution. Additionally, MediaTek is known for some powerful chips, like the Dimensity series, which are extremely power efficient. So it is likely that the new AI PC chips may end up benefitting from this.
Back in May 2024, Nvidia talked about making AI PC chips, but the company did not give out any details about a specific product. However, the interview did suggest that the manufacturer had plans to step into the AI PC space. At that time, we were expecting some announcements related to this at Computex.
Recently, Qualcomm announced the release of Snapdragon X Elite, which is an AI-powered processor that is designed to deliver high performance efficiently on ARM. Furthermore, we recently reported that AMD is gearing up to use its Ryzen AI 300 series chips for mini PCs, which might be coming out in October later this year, though these will use the familiar X86 design.
Overall, it looks like the AI processor space is hotting up and Nvidia should be a big part of it sometime during 2025.
