For a while now, there has been understandable excitement around AMD’s Ryzen AI 300 “Strix” APUs. These APUs were revealed a few weeks ago, and they have been made available on a few laptops.
The Strix Point APUs are Zen 5 mobile processors built on the RDNA 3.5 architecture and also feature XDNA 2 NPU cores. After the launch on July 28th, only a few laptops powered by these APUs were released. This includes Asus ROG Zephyrus G16, Asus ProArt P16, TUF Gaming A16, and ZenBook S16 models.
Around the time of launch, there were speculations about whether these APUs would be a part of new AI-powered handhelds or mini PCs. However, manufacturers did not come forward with any definitive answers.
We might see Ryzen AI 300-powered mini PCs this October
However, as per a new report by AOOSTAR, the PC manufacturer, the first mini PCs powered by the upcoming Ryzen AI 300 “Strix” APUs will arrive later this year.
More specifically, the manufacturer revealed on its Discord server that the Strilx Halo APU-based mini PCs won’t be ready until October. This is because AOOSTAR claimed that the motherboard for it was ready, but they haven’t received any CPUs for testing.
With these new reports, it was confirmed that the Strix APUs will power mini PCs, and if everything goes well, we might see a lineup of those before the end of this year.
In case you missed it, AMD released two new CPUs from the Ryzen 9000 series. The Ryzen 5 9600X and the Ryzen 7 9700X processors are available for purchase on retailer websites like Amazon, BestBuy, Newegg, and more.
The other two Zen 5 CPUs are scheduled to launch on August 15th, which is next week. Considering that the Ryzen 5 9600X and the Ryzen 7 9700X were launched on August 8th as planned, we can assume that the two high-end models will also be released on time.
