Star Wars Outlaws reviews are in, and it’s fair to say they have been a little mixed. The game has also been out for early-access customers for a couple of days now so we’re starting to see more feedback from the general public hit the forums too. Amongst the feedback from the last couple of days have been reports of the game completely crashing when players attempt to enable the game’s frame-generation feature.
The build-up to Star Wars Outlaws has seen ebbs and flows of excitement. When the news of an open-world Star Wars game first hit, fans were rightly excited, but as more information and trailers for the game were released many were underwhelmed. That said reviews have had positive things to say about Ubisoft’s new entry into the Star Wars canon with many praising the feel of the open world. If you’re interested in the game, you can currently pre-order it on Amazon.
Star Wars Outlaws frame gen crashing issues and a possible fix
On top of the mixed reviews, there have been several bugs reported by reviewers and early-access players alike. The one we’re focusing on here is the fact that the game reportedly crashes to desktop when players enable the frame generation feature in the game’s settings.
More than one Reddit post has already mentioned this bug with user Braveheart1980 stating that “When setting the frame gen on, the game instantly crashes”. This issue seems to be happening on a variety of PC setups, including leading GPUs such as the RTX 4090. So, even the best GPU for Star Wars Outlaws isn’t safe.
It’s not all doom and gloom though as Braveheart1980 also seems to have found a possible solution. According to them, simply running the exe of the installed game as administrator did the trick, although this doesn’t seem to have worked for everyone.
Is Star Wars Outlaws worth it?
Well, as we’ve said the reviews have been pretty mixed with the game’s world and immersion being widely praised but the story has been widely criticized. Not only that but several bugs including this one have been reported by players as well as the fact that Ubisoft has announced a patch that will require early access players to start a new save file or they might experience game-breaking bugs. Not great news for those who paid the $110 to get playing sooner.
It wouldn’t be the first time a Ubisoft game has been released with bugs a plenty, I’m personally still not over Assassin’s Creed Unity (yes I know it’s been 10 years). Ubisoft is evidently working to iron out the creases and some of their games that have had bumpy launches in the past have ended up being great after little tweaking. Our advice is to have a good read of some spoiler-free reviews and watch some gameplay to get a feel for the game but chances are, if you’re a big Star Wars fan you’ll probably get some joy out of this title.
