For some time now, Intel has been facing some trouble due to the instability issues in the 13th and 14th gen processors. So far, the company has tried to resolve the Vmin Shift issue with a BIOS update, extended warranties, and even replacements. On that last point, we did actually see 13900K and 14900K replacements go out of stock recently – so it has been far from smooth sailing.
Anyway, according to fresh reports, Intel is planning to release another firmware update, which will hopefully resolve the instability issues in the affected processors. Once and for all if we’re lucky.
Intel will roll out another BIOS update by the end of September
According to an official post on Intel’s community site, under ‘Product Support Forums’, the company has plans to roll out a firmware update by the end of September. This update will address the instability issues that have been plaguing Intel’s 13th and 14th-generation processors.
The post went on to clarify that the Vmin Shift Instability issue has not affected the 12th-gen processors, 13th-gen i3 and i5 processors, 14th-gen i3 and 15 processors (except 14th-gen i5 “K” processors), and 13th and 14th-gen mobile processors. Considering that most of the problems seem to be coming from high-end i9 processors, this is not a massive surprise.
However, Intel did advise users of the unaffected CPUs to install the latest BIOS and integrate the recommended settings for a better experience. In the same update, Intel’s spokesperson also mentioned that the newly released CPUs, as well as any processors that would be released in the future, will not be affected by the Vmin Shift instability. This means that the Lunar Lake and Arrow Lake processors will not be affected by this instability issue.
In case you missed it, Intel released the Lunar Lakes CPUs, a.k.a. the Core Ultra 200V processors, last week on September 3rd. Further, we’re also expecting the launch of Arrow Lake CPUs, which has been reportedly delayed until October 24th.
