The problems with Nvidia's RTX 50 series GPUs acquire a new aspect as it emerges that some reviews for laptops equipped with RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 GPUs are delayed due to severe drive problems.
The launch of Nvidia's RTX 50 series has been one of the most dysfunctional GPU launches in recent history. The problems seem to just keep piling up, from missing ROPs to supply problems and drivers causing crashes and blackscreens. Now, it seems even RTX 50 laptops are seeing problems that are delaying some reviews.
RTX 50 series laptops face bluescreens
Tech YouTuber JustJosh posted on Twitter/X that his review for RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 laptops was delayed, and this was down to unstable drivers causing Blue Screen crashes. The post was accompanied by a picture of a laptop showing a Windows bluescreen error with the generic “Your device ran into a problem” message.

As some replies noted, this is a big step back for Nvidia, which had previously acquired a reputation for extremely stable and reliable device drivers. In the past, it was AMD with the reputation for instability, and Nvidia was thought to be worth the extra cost for the additional stability.
This is not the only driver problem that Nvidia hardware is seeing. Recently, developers issued a warning to Nvidia users of RTX 30 series cards and newer to rollback to a previous driver version to fix issues in games such as InZOI and The First Berserker: Khazan.
A number of updates have been deployed that have claimed to resolve the issues, but reports of stuttering, visual artefacts and blackscreen crashes keep piling up. As one user on Twitter said, “The quality control at Nvidia is going down too fast. All this is literally forcing me to still recommend RTX 4000 series Laptops in 2025.”
Of course, there are still some 50-series laptop reviews out there. For example, we saw RTX 5090 laptop reviews go live over a week ago, but the high price points remain a point of contention.
