Nvidia RTX 5090D rumored to arrive early next year as another China-exclusive GPU
Table of Contents
NVIDIA fans are currently looking forward to the RTX 50-series GPUs, which are expected to launch later this year. However, as we’re getting closer to the release, we’re seeing new rumors and leaks coming to the surface, and the latest one suggests a new D-variant GPU launching in China next year, a successor to the 4090D that we’ve seen before.
The existence of the 4090D can be attributed to US export regulations, forcing Nvidia to create a cut-down version of the RTX 4090 for the Chinese market that meets requirements. Not quite as powerful as the original RTX 4090, but still a beast.
RTX 5090D will launch in China only
NVIDIA may be planning to launch a special RTX 5090D in the Chinese market at the start of next year. Most of you might be unfamiliar with this variant, but we’ve actually seen this before in the form of the RTX 4090D. The reason why it’s not really popular is because it is only available in China, as the rest of the world has the regular version.

And now, it seems like we’ll be seeing a successor to the 4090D when the 50-series launches. According to Hongxinx2020, the person who leaked this information, the 5090D will be released in January 2025.

For those wondering, the 4090D was created due to US-based regulations. The United States imposes limitations on high-performance graphics cards due to their potential uses outside of gaming. As a result, we saw the birth of D-series GPUs. With the changes, the 4090D offered 11% fewer cores than the regular version and a 50W lower TDP. However, NVIDIA had it later increased to 600W from 450W.
At the moment, we don’t know what specs the 5090D is going to offer. But considering what happened with the 4090D, we can expect its successor to also have fewer cores and a lower TDP than the original version. There are still plenty of months left till the card’s expected release, so NVIDIA has enough time to work on it. We will also have to wait and see if the price of the D variant is going to be less than the original one or not.
