VR game studio pitches Cyberpunk 2077 VR edition to CD Projekt RED following unofficial mod takedown
Game development studio Flat2VR, which, as the name suggests, specializes in modding ‘flat’ games and giving them a virtual reality makeover, is interested in making an official VR version of Cyberpunk 2077. The 2020 action RPG retains a healthy playerbase on Steam, and an official VR port seems to be the only way forward, following the takedown of a popular VR mod.
We think it’s safe to say that VR gaming remains relatively niche, and it’s perhaps fair to say Half-Life: Alyx remains the best VR game on the market, nearly six years after it was released. Porting something as big as Cyberpunk 2077 to VR would give it a run for its money. There has been no public response to the plea from CD Projekt RED at the time of writing this.
Could there be an official Cyberpunk 2077 VR mod?
Flat2VR took to X to publicly register its interest in developing an official VR port of Cyberpunk 2077. The dev studio calls it one of its “dream games” to port to VR. Flat2VR made a name for itself with its Half-Life 2 VR mod, and since then, has gone on to develop officially licensed adaptations for titles including Roboquest and Out of Sight – there’s also Postal 2 VR coming soon.

The plea comes shortly after news of a DMCA takedown. In a blog post titled Another one bites the dust, VR modder Luke Ross reveals his popular Cyberpunk 2077 VR mod has ceased development and will no longer be available following action from the game’s developers, CD Projekt Red. It’s all a bit gloomy; one positive thing from the post is new of a Baldurs Gate 3 VR mod.
Luke Ross makes his thoughts clear on the copyright infringement notice, revealing he is “a little bitter,” especially at a time when the VR gaming industry has been hit by setbacks. A new Batman VR game has reportedly been canceled after Meta shut down several VR dev teams. Ross claims CD Projekt RED is “not planning” its own VR port, so it seems gamers can only cling to the hope that Flat2VR can strike up some kind of deal.
