Winhanced can be regarded as an alternative to the Xbox Full Screen Experience for Windows handhelds, delivering a more console-like experience and a handful of extra features. After spending some time in early access (for Patreon/Discord members), the latest update (v0.9.4.4) is now available to everyone, and it comes with a list of new features and bug fixes.

We’ve been talking about Nvidia’s new DLSS 4.5 upgrade lately, bringing Dynamic Multi Frame Generation and up to 6x frame generation to its RTX 50 series GPUs. Of course, those of you on older hardware (or anything non-Nvidia) miss out, which counts for any handheld device currently on the market. Lossless Scaling helps fill that void for many people.

Winhanced with integrated Lossless Scaling for Windows handhelds

Version 0.9.4.4 includes support for Lossless Scaling controls directly within the Winhanced HUD. Lossless Scaling has long been an alternative to the upscaling and frame generation technology enabled by modern-day graphics cards, by giving PC gamers a way to use these newer rendering techniques on virtually any GPU. This includes handhelds, which offer integrated graphics solutions. Popular Windows handhelds include the likes of the ROG Ally, Legion Go, and MSI Claw series.

Native Lossless scaling HUD integration

After debuting in Early Access with 0.9.3, Lossless Scaling integration is now available to all users. Toggle LS and adjust its settings directly from the Winhanced HUD. If you own Lossless Scaling on Steam, the controls will appear automatically. If you don’t, nothing changes.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed OEM button remapping dying after sleep on Modern Standby devices (Legion Go, etc.)
  • Fixed Steam direct mode depot access errors (Hades II and others now download correctly)
  • Xbox Mode bridge and widget home button not functioning
  • Fixed duplicate Xbox games (Play Anywhere titles, demo/trial editions)
  • Fixed HowLongToBeat integration after their API endpoint changed
  • Fixed cache clear crashing the app
  • Fixed stale Game Pass games lingering after leaving Game Pass
  • Fixed code signing — no more Windows Defender warnings on Lenovo and other OEM devices
  • Numerous memory leak and stability improvements

You can read the full patch notes on the Winhanced website here. Other new features available in 0.9.4.4 include native xCloud streaming, faster startup for your game library, and a new splash screen and library browser UI. As you can tell from the version number, the software still hasn’t met its full v1 release – it’s developed by a small team of enthusiasts.
