Midjourney (a US-based independent research lab) has created one of the most prominent AI image generators in the world, but can it be used for video production? It’s accessible through Discord or a web browser and allows subscribers to generate original images of literally any art or photographic style with a simple text prompt. As it stands today, their latest release of Midjourney v5.2 is closer to true photorealism than anything else on the market – even for hands!

Is Midjourney Video on its way?

So it’s no surprise that users of the software are chomping at the bit for equally high-quality video capabilities. Many users have invented their own ways of turning Midjourney-generated images into videos using a combination of other software, but right now the software has no integrated video parameters – or does it?

Can Midjourney make video?

Behind the scenes, they’ve been tinkering with video functionality since the beginning. Visit the Midjourney website and, under their model versions documentation, you’ll see the – -video parameter has been available since version 1 (and even – –test and – –testp.)

However, we at PC Guide have just caught the independent research lab silently updating their documentation to add the – –video parameter to v4 and v5! I can confirm that, at least as late as April 17, 2023, there was no mention of video functionality in models more recent than v3.

Moreso, adding – –video to the end of your prompt merely produces a low-fps gif, a short movie of your initial image grid, and not the upscaled image i.e. the usable end result that the user cares about.

Deals season is here folks, and with it comes a plethora of eye-catching price cuts on some of the industry's most popular tech. Below are some of the best deals you can find right now.

Can Midjourney do animation?

It’s interesting to note that, because the – –video parameter applies to the – –niji model as well as the default models, Midjourney animation will likely be possible at the same time as Midjourney video. Video examples are equally limited to image grids for now.

When can we expect Midjourney Video?

Midjourney Video, in the form that subscribers are looking for, is possible – even probable – but not their main priority. Personally, I expect Midjourney bot to enable the video parameter for upscales later this year, but for them to be lagging behind AI startup Runway ML, for whom video has always been top priority.
