If you’re looking to pair the best CPU for gaming with a new motherboard, this MSI MEG X870E Godlike might not be the most sensible choice. Although it might be quite a featureful and powerful X870E motherboard, the price disparity of costing more than two 9800X3D reduces its demand to very few.
The MSI motherboard is available on Newegg for $1,099.99, compared to the 9800X3D’s price of $479 when it is in stock. This easily puts it at double the cost of one of them and even goes far beyond the highest-cost AMD CPU, which was released for $649. Making the mobo one of the more expensive parts of your build, you’d even have to look at the top GPUs to reach that same price, such as the RTX 4080 Super.
MSI Godlike features
It is a rather high-spec board made for high-end hardware and getting the most out of your gaming PC. The power solution on board is a prime solution for overclocking and pushing your components beyond their limits. That includes the DDR5 memory boost, which is primed for 9000+MT/s overclocking.
That also requires its cooling to be as effective as possible, and it does so by covering the majority of the PCB and parts with large heatsinks to dissipate the heat as effectively as possible. It adds heat pipes to the VRMS, with plenty of thermal pads connecting it to the broad heatsinks.
There is also an added cooled slot in the board for NVMe SSDs with an active fan to ensure they don’t throttle. The connectivity and specs are the best and latest, bringing WiFi 7 and plenty of PCIe Gen 5 and 10Gbps ethernet to the motherboard. But whether all of that is worth the money ultimately comes down to your budget and needs.
