We’re just a couple of days away from the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D release date on November 7th, but that hasn’t stopped it from appearing online early. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen highly anticipated hardware appear on eBay ahead of launch, and it probably won’t be the last.
A user named miami305supps on eBay is apparently selling a 9800X3D ‘Preorder’ in time for the launch. However, considering the ridiculously high price tag and no actual proof that the seller owns the new best gaming CPU, we’d recommend staying clear and just figuring out where to buy the 9800X3D from a legitimate retailer instead.
9800X3D appears on eBay for $999
AMD has already confirmed that the 9800X3D will come with a $479 price tag in the US. That’s actually $30 more than we saw with the prior 7800X3D and 5800X3D models, but it may be well worth it considering recent Geekbench leaks show the new chip outperforming the 7800X3D by 24%. This is partly because the 9800X3D now offers overclocking support to help it become the perfect enthusiast pick for gamers, at least in our opinion.
Either way, we don’t think this eBay listing is worth your time unless you’re willing to pay just shy of $1000 for a new CPU without proper proof the seller actually owns it. You can find the listing here, but it only offers marketing/product photography. Interestingly enough, the same seller is doing something similar with Intel’s new flagship 285K.
We think the 9800X3D is going to be a highly popular CPU and there are just a couple of days left until you’ll be able to buy one – so don’t fall for this potential scam. With the Intel Core Ultra launch numbers worse than we imagined, it’s the perfect opportunity for AMD to further increase its market share with yet another X3D CPU tailored for gaming.
