AMD’s next-gen Navi 44 GPU listed with smaller package size than its predecessors

As Nvidia is ramping up for the launch of its RTX 50 series GPUs, so is AMD with their RX 8000 GPUs, and we even have some leaks claiming what their specifications would be. However, since there is no official word from AMD, take this information with a grain of salt.
That said, another leaked detail for the next-gen AMD GPUs has also come to light, which aligns with what we know about AMD likely dropping high-end GPUs and focusing more on the mid-range and budget market segment.

Navi 44 GPU package size is smaller than the last few gens
According to a post by Olrak29_ on X, the package size of the Navi 44 GPU is 29 x 29mm, while Navi 23 and 33 have a package size of 35 x 35mm. This is sourced from NBD, a site that is useful for spotting early trade and shipping data ahead of launch.
Navi 23 and 33 GPUs include the RX 6600 XT and RX 7600 XT, respectively, along with their other variants. So, the Navi 44 package size is 6 x 6mm smaller, and the only GPU package smaller than this was the Navi 24, which is 29 x 24mm. Navi 24 refers to the RX 6300, 6400, and other low-end GPUs from a couple of generations ago.
The main takeaway from this is that while the package size is small, the die size should not be confused with it. The die size for Navi 23 GPUs was 237mm² while Navi 33 has a die size of 204mm².
Their respective process size was 7 and 6nm, and seeing how every company is trying to reduce the size of processes, the Navi 44 and 48 GPUs could have a greater density and transistor count, giving them better performance and efficiency than their predecessors. The smaller package size doesn’t necessarily mean the upcoming RX 8000 series will perform worse, but it does once again reiterate AMD’s low-mid-range target within the GPU market.
