ASUS is bringing another update to its motherboards in preparation for the Ryzen 9000 CPU release. The latest BIOS aims to improve the stability of the processors with the new AGESA version. The company started this rollout back in April but there are always improvements to be done even as the processors will start coming out from the 8th of August. This particular update came about for the ROG Crosshair X670E Hero as version 2204.

The 13.45MB update updates the AGESA version to Combo AM5 PI 1.2.0.0a Patch A. The AGESA is an AMD library software architecture and is vital for the functioning of its motherboards and components so these sorts of updates are rather important. They enable your hardware to function correctly, so it’s sort of critical to update your BIOS as and when it’s released to keep it going stable and with the right performance.

It’s also rather important to update your BIOS building out your gaming PC considering that they can be outdated. As the X670 motherboards were released with the AM5 launch, they were made for the Ryzen 7000, so 9000 series support has to be added in now (with the BIOS flash feature doing big favors here). Especially as the X870 motherboards aren’t expected for some time yet.

How to update

There are a couple of ways to update depending on your motherboard. For this particular board, as we reviewed the Crosshair X670E Hero it has a couple of options. When installing a new CPU and setting up a new build your best bet is using the BIOS flash. Getting the BIOS on a USB and renaming it to “CX670EH.CAP” in the root of it then it needs to be plugged into the BIOS USB port. Then hitting the BIOS button it should do its thing over many minutes.

Or if you can boot up and access the BIOS, you can use the BIOS updater on board, usually Ezflash. There you can follow the instructions to get the job done. But it is important to keep on top of it so it is worth going back to from time to time to check but this will prep your PC for the latest hardware coming soon.
