As part of its ‘Pro and Tell’ event earlier this week, Apple has announced its very latest iMac, and now it’s available to pre-order. The brand-new M6 iMac joins the 14-inch MacBook Pro as another piece of Apple tech upgrading to the new-gen M6 processor. Unlike the black or silver laptop, the all-in-one desktop iMac arrives in a flurry of colors to choose from, whatever your style.

Apple actually skipped the M5 generation for its consumer iMac series, so fans can expect a significant improvement over the last-gen model, released back in 2024. According to Apple’s official press release, the M6 model is “up to 1.5x faster” than the M4, or if you’re upgrading from the original M1 iMac, you can expect up to 2.5x faster performance “in apps like Microsoft Excel”.

Where to buy the new iMac, and when does it release?

Unsurprisingly, the Apple Store is the go-to retailer for new Apple gear. That being said, there are also a couple of alternatives to consider, namely B&H and Best Buy, both of which have been covering Apple’s latest product launch – including the company’s first-ever touchscreen MacBook, the MacBook Pro PROLED XDR. Best Buy is offering free extras such as Apple service subscriptions and 15% off select Apple accessories (keyboards, mice, trackpads).

Apple lists November 6 as the availability (full release) date for the iMac M6. This is the same as the other hardware launches happening right now and should be when you’ll find them in-store. In addition to the new MacBooks, there’s also an OLED iPad Mini on the way. Sadly, it’s limited to 60Hz, and the same can be said for the new colorful iMac, as ProMotion support is not listed. You can find a full list of specs just below.

How much does the new iMac M6 cost?

One of the first things that may strike you as an Apple consumer is the price hike involved here. The M4 iMac launched two years ago starting at $1,299 in the United States, and now Apple has upped the price of the M6 model by $200. They both offer the same memory and storage configs, albeit with faster speeds, and Apple already warned us of “unavoidable” price increases, so it’s not totally unexpected.

ModelUnited StatesUnited KingdomCanada
iMac M6 (10-core CPU/GPU)$1,499£1,499C$2,099
iMac M6 (12-core CPU/GPU)$1,699£1,699C$2,299

The numbers above represent the starting prices for the 10-core and 12-core models. As always with Apple, any config changes or extras will drag the final price tag even higher. Memory and storage are the main specs to consider, as jumping from 16GB to 24GB on the 10-core model adds another $200 to the asking price. It’s the same when upgrading 256GB storage to 512GB. There’s also an extra charge for a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port, along with Apple’s Magic Trackpad and Magic Keyboard peripherals.
