PC gamers are looking forward to AMD’s 9070 XT, not Nvidia’s 5070, our poll reveals
Table of Contents
Nvidia has already launched two GPUs from the RTX 50 series, namely the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080. Next up are the RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti, and it looks like these cards will be closely contested by what AMD has to offer early this March. Team Red will soon be launching the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT and it seems they could prove to be a popular choice.
According to a recent poll we ran on the upcoming graphics cards, the RX 9070 XT is by far the most popular option. Now, there is still a level of mystery to this GPU – AMD has yet to officially reveal its specifications. On the flip side, we already know the RTX 5070 series specs, plus some AI-aided benchmarks, but detailed raster performance will have to wait until reviews drop.

Radeon RX 9070 XT is the GPU our readers are looking forward to the most
Based on poll results at the time of writing, the RX 9070 XT holds 71% of votes, while the RTX 5070 is far behind with just 4%. We’ll leave the poll up and running so you can have your say, but here’s how the results look at the moment:
- RTX 5070 Ti: 117 (14%)
- RTX 5070: 33 (4%)
- RX 9070 XT: 589 (71%)
- RX 9070: 93 (11%)
According to Nvidia, the RTX 5070 will offer similar performance to the RTX 4090. However, this comes with a large caveat – AI techniques such as DLSS upscaling and the series-exclusive Multi Frame Generation are heavily involved. On the other hand, we’re yet to see how the new AMD cards perform outside of a few early tests such as this Black Ops 6 4K benchmark sighted at CES 2025.
As for the lack of interest in the RTX 5070, one reason could be that its 12GB of VRAM falls behind the competition, though Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang recently touched on why that is. In contrast, the RX 9070 series cards are expected to feature 16GB as standard, and a 32GB model is also reportedly in the works. Aside from the memory, the 5070 may not offer a massive uplift over the 4070 and 4070 Super, with a moderate increase in CUDA cores. However, with a $549 price tag, we think it still has a shot of becoming a popular choice once the dust settles following launch.
With the upcoming launch of new Radeon GPUs, it’s possible AMD will capitalize on Nvidia’s 50 series stock shortages which have plagued the 5090 and 5080 so far. On top of that, the RTX 5070 Ti is said to offer “very limited” stock at launch. It’s an exciting time for PC gamers looking to upgrade, and everything seems to point towards AMD clawing back some GPU market share after dropping to just 10% towards the end of last year.
