At the start of every month, Valve publishes its new Steam Hardware & Software Survey to give us a closer look what PC gamers are running in their systems. Nvidia’s RTX 5090 graphics card has finally appeared in the statistics for June, having been absent so far this year. The flagship card, which was launched at the end of January, is being used by 0.19% of Steam users.

With a high $1,999 MSRP (and the fact you’ll struggle to find it close to that price in the U.S), it’s not surprising to see more high-end GPU users opting for the RTX 5080 instead, which hit the market for $999. The 5080 still retails above MSRP in the United States, but we have seen it drop below in regions such as Europe, including the UK.

RTX 50 series on the Steam Hardware & Software Survey

The most popular RTX 50 series card on Steam right now is the RTX 5070, with 0.99% of the total share. You can actually pick up the 5070 for MSRP right now if you’re interested, and it’s even available through the Nvidia marketplace, so we might expect it to enjoy even more growth while alternatives remain pricey.

The most popular GPU overall is actually a laptop GPU – the 4060 mobile chip makes up 4.99% of users, and Nvidia’s xx60 series cards continue to dominate the top of the chart. The RTX 5060, 5060 Ti, and respective laptops were released relatively recently, so there’s still some time needed for them to climb the ranks.

For comparison, last-gen’s flagship RTX 4090 is being used by 0.90% of Steam users, a number that has already been overtaken by the RTX 5070. As you may remember, Nvidia marketed the 5070 as a GPU with 4090-level performance for a fraction of the price. While this makes sense in certain scenarios with all the help it can get from DLSS 4 and Multi Frame Generation, native benchmarks make it obvious that it isn’t close.

The RTX 50 series is starting to make some substantial gains on the survey, while AMD’s most recent GPUs are nowhere to be seen. Some of that may come down to the Radeon cards being labeled under the generic ‘AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics’ entry, but we already know that Nvidia’s GPU market share is leaps and bounds ahead of the competition.
