Nvidia’s RTX 50 series has been on the market for the better part of two years, but information about its successor remains limited. Nvidia hasn’t officially announced the RTX 60 series yet, amid component shortages, and details about its specifications and release schedule remain unclear. However, a new claim suggests gamers waiting for the next generation of more affordable GPUs could be in for a particularly long haul.

According to respected hardware leaker Kepler_L2, there is a “good chance” the RTX 6060 won’t arrive until 2029. This follows previous claims from the same leaker suggesting Nvidia may not launch its next-generation RTX 60 series GPUs until 2028, with the higher-end models expected to arrive first.

What does the RTX 60 series timeline look like so far?

Based on the leaker’s speculation, the RTX 6060 could follow much later than cards such as the expected RTX 6090 and RTX 6080. Nvidia typically launches its higher-end GPUs first before gradually introducing more affordable models, but the rumored gap could be significantly larger this time around. For comparison, the RTX 5060 arrived in mid-May 2025, just a few months after the 5090 at the end of January that year.

One possible reason is an expected supply shortage. Kepler_L2 believes Nvidia could delay its lower-end GPUs when components and manufacturing capacity are limited, allowing the company to prioritize more expensive products instead. We’ve seen Nvidia spread out launches before, particularly when supply has been tight, although there is currently no confirmation that the same strategy will be used for the RTX 60 series. We’ve seen the RTX 5090 in short supply lately, though Nvidia claims it’s not yet discontinued.

Kepler_L2 has also commented on the possible performance of the RTX 6060. The leaker doesn’t expect it to match the graphics performance of Sony’s next-generation PlayStation 6, which is itself rumored to feature an AMD RDNA 5-based design. However, neither the RTX 6060 nor PlayStation 6 has finalized public specifications, so performance comparisons this far ahead should be treated cautiously.

For now, the leak mainly suggests that Nvidia’s next generation could have a much longer rollout than usual. If high-end RTX 60 series cards don’t arrive until 2028 and the RTX 6060 really follows in 2029, PC gamers could be waiting several years for a direct successor to the RTX 5060.
