The IFA Berlin 2025 event is just around the corner (well, a bunch of announcements have already kicked off, including Acer’s new laptops and gaming monitors). Anyway, many are expecting Lenovo to finally announce the Legion Go 2 during the show, which fully kicks off this Friday, on the 5th.

Excitement has been building ever since the prototype was first revealed earlier this year, and recent leaked promotional materials gave us a much clearer picture of what the handheld will offer. However, the leaked images not only highlight the specifications, but they also hint at something even bigger – the possibility of the Legion Go 2 running SteamOS.

What we know about the Legion Go 2 so far

Back at CES 2025, Lenovo showed off the Legion Go 2 as a prototype. At that time, the company shared details about its design and hardware but left some questions unanswered. Fans have been waiting ever since to see what the final version will include. But thanks to the latest leak, we now know more about its finalized specs. The device is expected to feature an OLED display, an 8.8-inch screen, and the powerful Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor.

While those specifications are exciting, the operating system is what has caught our attention. In an image shared by well-known leaker Evan Blass on X, the Legion Go 2 can be seen running what looks to be SteamOS. What makes it even interesting is that the bottom-left corner of the image shows a Steam logo, and the monochrome button prompts resemble those of SteamOS.

This is surprising because, during CES, Lenovo specifically mentioned that they had no plans to release a SteamOS version of the device. But that was a long time ago, and Lenovo might have changed its plans. We’ve already seen them release the Legion Go S with a SteamOS model, so why not the Legion Go 2?

If the leak is real, and this render is an accurate representation, Lenovo could be preparing to release two different variants of the Legion Go 2 – one running Windows and another running SteamOS by default. We already expect it to be available with separate Z2 and Z2 Extreme models, so the choice of operating system would add another layer to that. Alternatively, the leaked screenshot could just be the Windows model with SteamOS or something like Bazzite dual-booted. We suppose only time will tell.
