As Zen 5 comes out to the masses, there are plenty of considerations for pairing it with AMD’s new best CPUs. Continuing with releases onto its AM5 platform means you’re looking for a set of DDR5 RAM to match its potential. That’s why we take a look at the top pick for the Ryzen 9 9950X release and how best to complement the processor and unlock its full potential.

Along with the likes of the best GPU for the 9950X and CPU cooler for it, combining the best out of them ensures you get an all-around strong gaming PC. As for the memory choice, we went with the Corsair Dominator Titaniums we reviewed. These have a spec of 64GB capacity, with a speed rating of 6600MT/s, and a CAS latency of 32ns. They shape up pretty well, and we explain our selection below, along with providing some alternatives if they don’t quite suit your needs.

Specifications
  • Capacity: 64GB (2x32GB)
  • Generation: DDR5
  • Speed: 6600MT/s
  • CAS Latency: CL32

The Corsair RAM is certainly a more premium choice to go for, which is kind of the point when you’re opting for one of the top processors out there. As it also has plenty of capacity, with 64GB it allows you to load it up with any workload you want the CPU to blaze through. But it also has the speed to run faster, as it’s rated for 6600MT/s with overclocking, but enabling EXPO even has the option for 6800 to boost it even higher without the need for manually going through the settings individually.

It does have a fairly low CAS latency for DDR5, advertising, and running a 32ns through the EXPO setting. Altogether combined to create a fast and reliable piece of kit. Plus there is the great design of the kits, bringing something a bit more unique and different to the table. Primarily it has interchangeable tops, with just a few screws taken out you can replace the ends of the RAM sticks.

You can either go for what Corsair has to offer with more heatsink picks, or you can 3D print your own. That’s where it really stands out, with the provided starting point you can elaborate and design it as much as you want. Which is the optimal way for something that might not usually be a big consideration in a PC build. Or you can always just leave it alone with the basic RGB lighting strips and control it via the iCUE software.

Performance and price

As we found in our review of the RAM, it does a good job across the board. Although at the time it did run at a lower clock for some reason, it still showed its potential. Where it takes less time to render videos in Handbrake, leading in the CPU profile benchmark in 3D Mark and trading blows across the other tests. Although the differences are so minute they can change between runs and just with minor changes in the system.

As for the price, it does come as the more expensive option. Sitting around $300 it certainly is a top-end pick, but does offer plenty of additions as a RAM kit to most other options in the market. But it certainly is not the most value-sensible pick when comparing the same specs.

Alternative choices

If the Corsair Dominator Titanium isn’t for you then there are some other recommendations below for you. It’s not surprising if you do want an alternative as there are some better value picks out there to pick from. Starting off with the G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo we also reviewed. Although there are newer models as this particular set was an older model, the Tridents in general provide a strong value selection for stacking out your memory.

The model below is a lower capacity and frequency so you do lose out on some of the potential there. Whilst if you’re going for something more budget orientated the Teamgroup T-Create is something a bit more simple. Still comes with 32GB of capacity, but turns down the clocks even overclocked with a 5600MT/s rated speed it can achieve.

On the other hand, there is plenty more potential to be had. In the years speeds have gotten even better for DDR5, as the likes of G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB is capable of running 8400MT/s, blisteringly fast, and still brings a nice look to it with the RGB on top. Although it does cut back on some capacity compared to Corsair has 48GB (a more unique addition to DDR5) and does increase latency to CL40. But in general, it’s a rather fast module to go for to match the speed of the CPU.

Final word

Overall, there you have our top choice for RAM to match the 9950X. With the high speed and processing power of the processor, you want to go for something capable of matching its potential. Plus, when you’re spending so much already, you’re going to want to get a good locking choice as well. So the Corsair Dominator Titaniums fit that mark. But there are always alternatives too in case you’re after something else too.
