[ The PC Guide | Troubleshooting and Repair Guide | The Troubleshooting Expert | Troubleshooting Specific Components | Troubleshooting the System Case | Key Lock ] I've lost the key to the system key lock Explanation: The system is giving an error message or refusing to boot because it says that the keyboard is locked, or the case is locked, but I have lost the key and cannot unlock it. Diagnosis: The key lock can be defeated easily by opening the case. Recommendation: Open the case and disconnect the key lock from the motherboard. With older PCs, the two wires from the key lock are combined with the two wires for the power LED into a five-pin connector--make sure the power LED is still connected to its pins. This should let you boot the system, but the key lock will no longer function.
