The i7-13700K is a powerful CPU, but it may not be considered a high-end CPU. However, if you want to push your gaming performance to the limits, pairing it with a high-end GPU like the RTX 4080 Super from Nvidia could be a great option. The RTX 4080 Super is known for its solid overclocking performance and exceptional power delivery, providing a smooth and fast gaming experience.

The GPU’s boost clock speed is 2550 MHz, making it one of the fastest GPUs available in the market. Its 10,240 CUDA cores and 16GB GDDR6X VRAM provide excellent graphics processing capabilities, making it a top-performing GPU for demanding games and applications.

In our RTX 4080 Super review, we discovered that the GPU delivers excellent framerates for 1440p as well as 4K. To give you an example, we played Assassin's Creed Mirage at Ultra settings, and we got 139 FPS @ 1440p and 95 FPS @ 4K.

The RTX 4080 Super confidently replaces any reason to ever go out and buy the base RTX 4080.

PC Guide

One thing to note is the RTX 4080's triple fan design, which could be a drawback for users with limited space in their system. The GPU measures 2.9 x 5.3 x 2.2 inches (LxWxH), making it larger than others. Additionally, according to Nvidia, the RTX 4080 Super requires a 750W power supply, and its TDP is rated at 320W. This means you'll need a compatible power supply to support this GPU's high power requirements.

If you’re interested in exploring some options, we recommend you check out the Corsair RM750x PSU, as we’ve reviewed it, and it is the only power supply unit to get a 5/5 rating from us. That being said, we ran Cyberpunk 2077 to check its gaming performance, and at native with ultra settings, this card managed 125 FPS at 1440p and 51 FPS at 4K.

This means that by enabling DLSS 3, we can take its performance to the next level at any resolution but for 4K, that means more frames and a smooth gaming experience. On top of that, the 13700K should be able to easily keep up with the GPU at 1080p, but with the RTX 4080 Super, you most likely aren’t going to be gaming at 1080p.

Overall, the RTX 4080 Super is one of the best GPUs for the i7-13700K and is a great choice for users who want the best gaming experience and excellent overclocking capabilities.

It also supports Nvidia's DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) technology, which uses AI to upscale lower-resolution images and increase frame rates. The RTX 3090 requires a lot of power, with a TDP of 350W. It requires a 750W power supply with a 12-pin power connector, which is a unique feature of the RTX 30-series cards.

We played Cyberpunk 2077 at Ultra Settings and got 87 FPS for 1440p and 41 FPS for 4K with DLSS disabled.

PC Guide

We reviewed the MSI RTX 3090 GPU in-house to get a better look at the specs. In our review, we discovered that the card excels at 1440p and delivers a good 4K performance. For example, we played Cyberpunk 2077 at Ultra Settings and got 87 FPS for 1440p and 41 FPS for 4K with DLSS disabled. So, to get the most out of this GPU, you need to pair it with a suitable CPU.

The RTX 3090 is not just a gaming GPU; it's also a workstation GPU with features such as support for ECC memory and NVLink, which allows users to link multiple GPUs together for even more power. It's a great choice for content creators, video editors, and other professionals who demand the best performance in their work.

In conclusion, while the RTX 3090 is not the latest GPU in the market, it still offers exceptional performance that can rival the current high-end GPUs. Its massive VRAM and CUDA cores, high clock speeds, and advanced features make it an excellent choice for demanding applications.

Best budget GPU for i7-13700K
05
  • SPARKLE Intel Arc B580 TITAN OC front and fans
Excellent
Specifications
  • GPU: BGM-G21
  • Shading units: 2,560
  • VRAM: 12GB GDDR6
  • Memory bus width: 192-bit
  • Bandwidth: 456GB/s
  • Base/Boost clock speed: 2,670/2,740 MHz
Reasons to Buy
  • Plenty of VRAM in comparison to the competition
  • It can push 4K in some games
  • Great price to performance
Reasons to Avoid
  • Slightly more expensive than reference card
  • Still occasional troubles in older games specifically
  • Only Gen 4 x8 PCIe – may be an issue for older motherboards

The Intel Core i7-13700K is free from the issues that the 13900K and 14900K faced; this means stable and reliable performance. So, if you’re short on finances and want to build a budget gaming PC, we recommend pairing this CPU with the Intel Arc B580.

Intel wasn’t on the radar for its GPUs, but this has changed with the launch of its Battlemage cards as the B580 has proven its worth and is an excellent GPU for 1440p and 1080p gaming, as we found in our Sparkle Intel Arc B580 Titan OC review. This graphics card has 20 Xe cores that handle all the graphical processing, and they run at 1,700 MHz with a 190W TDP at base settings but can be increased to 2,740 MHz with a 10W increment.

However, there is another option that takes it even further to 2,800 MHz, meaning the GPU can process 2.8 billion instructions per second but ramps up the TDP to 210W. However, even with one of the best 750W PSUs, the Corsair RM750x, you should get plenty of overhead for further overclocking of the GPU and CPU. This is because the 13700K has a maximum TDP of 253W, which, combined with the B580 210W, totals 463W, leaving you with 287W of overhead for other components.

Coming in with a decent amount of VRAM for the ever-growing graphics requirements at a lower price, it even offers 1440p performance at times in a tier where the competition was a bit stale. It's certainly a great alternative to an entry-level gaming card.

PC Guide

The only downside to this GPU is that it costs $269, compared to the reference card’s $249 price tag, but it does feature a triple fan design, along with custom OC modes and a GPU support stand. It also sports a unique blue color that would look perfect for an all-Intel build.

We paired it with the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, which is much better than the 13700K for gaming and got excellent results at lower resolutions. In Cyberpunk 2077, we got 94 and 62 FPS at 1080p and 1440p, respectively, and it even managed to run Shadow of the Tomb Raider at 4K with 54 FPS, which is simply amazing.

However, you shouldn’t have any issues running games at 1080p or 1440p with the 13700K as it has 16 cores with 24 threads running at a base and boost clock speeds of 2.5 GHz and 5.4 GHz, respectively. Overall, this pairing should save you a bunch of money and still deliver good gaming performance.

How to choose the best GPU for the 13700K

The Intel Core i7-13700K is a powerful CPU, so to pair it well with a GPU, here are the key considerations.

Resolution and refresh rate

While a super powerful GPU can crank out far more frames than a 1080p 60Hz monitor can display, the extra performance is wasted. This overkill approach offers diminishing returns for the significant increase in cost, power consumption, and heat generation. A mid-range GPU that delivers smooth 60 FPS gameplay at high settings is a better fit, saving you money and creating a more balanced, efficient PC build.

Tasks

GPUs cater to different tasks. If gaming is your main focus, prioritize raw performance. Video editing and 3D rendering benefit from features like large amounts of memory, so consider those aspects when choosing a GPU for your workload. Similarly, if you are after a more creative output and prioritize lighting effects, you may need GPUs with solid ray tracing – like the Nvidia RTX series.

Compatibility

While GPUs and CPUs are generally compatible across generations, choosing the right motherboard for your CPU is crucial. To ensure seamless pairing with your Ryzen 7 7800X3D, we've curated a guide to the best compatible motherboards. For extra peace of mind, compatibility checkers like PCPartPicker can be your handy allies.

Price
