Midjourney was one of the first AI image generators that made headlines, and many of us rushed to try it out, only to be stopped by the Discord login screen. This tool was exclusive to Discord, meaning you had to create an account and write a prompt to generate the image.
However, that isn’t the case anymore. Recently, the CEO of Midjourney, David Holz, made an announcement on their Discord server, stating that you can now make up to 25 images for free “temporarily” without needing to sign up on Discord. So, if you’re wondering about trying it out but aren’t sure how well it works, we’ve covered you with our hands-on Midjourney review.
How does Midjourney work now?
To create AI-generated images via Midjourney, you can head over to Midjourney’s website, create an account, or log in, and that’s about it. While you still have to register on their website, you can use your Google account to do so, which should make the process much quicker and more easily accessible to a wider range of users. You can also choose to merge Discord and Google accounts so you can sign in with either in the future. However, remember, each free account is only limited to 25 pictures; after that, you’ll have to pay up.
The pre-requisite of creating 10,000 images on Discord and then being able to use the website has also been removed, which gives us the impression that Midjourney is taking its competition seriously and doesn’t want to be left behind for its “exclusivity” by being locked into Discord. Even still, Holz does recommend signing in with a Discord account on the website if you want to maintain your history of images made via the platform.
