The hype is real surrounding the upcoming release of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 and I for one am excited to return to the hack-and-slash shoot-em-up that has been waiting 12 long years for a sequel! There’s a lot to be excited about when it comes to this game whether you’re a lover of 40K, of the original game, or a complete newcomer, and among the latest news for Space Marine 2 is that the devs are working on official Steam Deck support.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is being released on September 5th for those going for the Gold and Ultra edition and on September 9th for everyone getting the standard edition.
The original Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, released in 2011, had pretty positive reviews at the time and sold well but was criticized for its linearity. In a gaming world that has recently lacked classic hack-your-way-through-hoards-of-enemies games though, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 could be the nostalgic breath of fresh bloodthirsty air that many gamers are after right now.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 should have Steam Deck support by the end of the year
With handheld gaming still on the rise many developers are making an effort to include support for the devices in their games and the Steam Deck seems to be the device of the moment.
In a recent community update, the game’s publishers Focus Entertainment have laid out Space Marine 2’s roadmap for 2024 and 2025, as well as answering several questions concerning the different game modes and performance. Included in these answers was the news that the devs are hard at work to bring Steam Deck Support to the game.
Unfortunately, the team has said that official Steam Deck support won’t be coming at the time of the game’s release. The good news is that Steam Deck support should be out by the end of the year so those wanting to take their alien killing on the go shouldn’t have to wait too long.
Will Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 be worth it?
Is it too short an answer to say yes? Well, any big fans of the first Space Marine game should certainly be excited about this game. The gameplay has had a significant update from the first but there’ll also be a familiarity to the weight of the action as well as the weapons.
Speaking of familiarity for those hardcore 40K fans among us, Space Marine 2 offers a mind-boggling opportunity to live out your deepest grimdark fantasies.
