[ The PC Guide | Systems and Components Reference Guide | System Memory | DRAM Technologies ] Conventional DRAM The oldest and slowest DRAM technology is so-called "regular" or conventional DRAM. It uses the standard memory addressing method, where first the row address is sent to the memory, and then the column address. It is the most "vanilla" type of memory and doesn't require any special compatibility. This type of DRAM is now quite obsolete and is not used on any new systems, having been replaced by fast page mode memory and newer technologies.
