Age of Mythology: Retold has a unique and mythological twist as going against humans wasn’t enough; you’ve got humans, Gods, and monsters in the mix. On top of that, you’ve got better graphics, 50 campaign missions, and randomly generated maps so you can get your squad together and go on new adventures every day.
That said, to run this game, the recommended CPU and GPU are an Intel i5 3.6 GHz processor or AMD equivalent paired with a GTX 970 or RX 570. These components are old, and to find a used laptop with these specifications wouldn’t be the best way to go about it.
To enjoy Age of Mythology: Retold in the highest graphical settings, we recommend the MSI Stealth 18 AI laptop. It is one of the best gaming laptops with high-end components, making it a great option for this title and even more demanding ones.
If you’re interested in learning how we select and review products, we’ve got you covered. With that said, let’s get right into it.

Age of Mythology: Retold doesn’t have very demanding system requirements, as even a budget gaming laptop should be able to run without issues. However, we understand that when you get a gaming laptop, there is an urge to explore more titles, and you want to try AAA titles like Red Dead Redemption 2 or Cyberpunk 2077.
Now, unlike Age of Mythology: Retold, these titles have demanding system requirements, which is why we recommended this laptop. It can handle games of varying requirements and should enable you to play games for years to come.
For starters, the MSI Stealth 18 AI has the Intel Core Ultra 9 185H processor paired with the powerful RTX 4080 graphics card, which we’ve reviewed in-house and found to have incredible 4K performance. What this means is that this combination should be more than enough, and some might even rightfully call it overkill for this title. So, you shouldn’t worry about lag or stuttering issues before ramping up the in-game settings to the highest level possible.
That said, there is no point in having powerful components if you can enjoy the output, and for that, this laptop features an 18”, 120Hz refresh rate mini LED display with 3840×2400 resolution or 4K.
Simply put, a 4K 18-inch display with a 16:10 aspect ratio should make it look bigger during gaming and while handling other workloads. That said, since it has enough power to push 4K, you could pair it with an external 4K monitor for a better visual experience.
I have an M16 with a 16-inch display with a 16:10 ratio, and it felt like I moved to a wide-screen display when it upgraded from my 15-inch HP Probook.
As for the RAM and storage, this gaming beast has 32GB of DDR5 RAM running at 5600MHz, which is, once again, more than enough even for resource-intensive titles developed in Unreal Engine 5.
The recommended memory for Age of Mythology: Retold is 16GB, but they haven’t specified if it’s DDR4 or DDR5. However, I use 16GB of DDR4 RAM running at 3,600MHz, and I haven’t run into any issues in titles like The Division 2, Insurgency: Sandstorm, and Apex Legends. So, even if this laptop uses DDR4, which I believe isn’t the case, there is nothing to worry about.
When it comes to the storage capacity, it has a 2TB NVMe SSD (Gen 4), which means it should have sequential read/write speeds of 7,450/6,900 MB/s, respectively. What that means is quick boot and load times, which is great to have as you aren’t slowed down at work or while gaming.
In addition, Age of Mythology: Retold only requires 25GB of free space, so even after downloading and installing it, you should have plenty of space to install other games and software.
Overall, while it does deviate a bit from how MSI gaming laptops are, especially in terms of design, there is no doubt that this laptop has excellent performance and features, making it one of the best laptops for Age of Mythology: Retold.

Alternatives to the MSI Stealth 18 AI
There are plenty of alternatives to the MSI Stealth 18 AI laptop, such as the best Razer laptops, which are renowned for their gaming performance, or even the best budget laptops, for those who don’t want to spend a fortune on a laptop to play this title.
The top alternative option is the MSI Raider GE78, which we’ve reviewed. It had excellent performance across the board. It has a 14900HX processor paired with the RTX 4080, a 4 TB NVMe SSD, and a 240Hz display. Unlike the MSI Stealth 18 AI, it has very “gamer-like” aesthetics. So, if you’re okay with that, this is a good option, but for professional environments, it might stick out a bit much.
We’ve got the Acer Nitro 17 with a Ryzen 7 7840HS CPU and an RTX 4050 GPU. While it won’t offer the same performance as an RTX 4080 laptop, it still has pretty good specifications, making running Age of Mythology: Retold a breeze. It also costs significantly less than the MSI Stealth 18 AI, making it a solid option for those on a budget.
Our last alternative option is the Lenovo LOQ gaming laptop, which features an i7-13700H and an RTX 4060. This laptop should have even better performance than the Acer Nitro 17 since it has 32GB of RAM, but its display is only 1080p and has a 144Hz refresh rate. If you can look past that, this is a good gaming laptop.

Final word
The MSI Stealth 18 AI laptop has plenty of high-end components under the hood, enabling it to power through intensive gaming and professional sessions. On top of that, it has an amazing display, so even if you’re not gaming, watching your favorite movies or TV shows should be a delight.
That said, while this does come with a hefty price tag, it should be a worthwhile investment that should last a couple of years and through various AAA titles.
