RDNA 5 won’t arrive for at least another year, AMD GPU partners expect, as graphics card releases slow down
We’ve grown accustomed to GPU manufacturers such as AMD and Nvidia shipping new generations of consumer graphics cards every two years, but this schedule seems to be shifting. Fresh rumors suggest that RDNA 5, set to be Team Red’s next generation of desktop GPUs, will be arriving in Q2 or Q3 2027. Others expect the cards to be made available in early 2028.
AI-fueled memory shortages have already delayed Nvidia’s RTX 50 Super cards (luckily, they are still rumored for a 2026 release), and GPU production is not as routine as it has been for the past decade or so. Nothing has been made official about RDNA 5, but previous specs leaks (before the memory shortage really kicked in) suggested AMD would ditch 8GB models.

This information comes from Dutch tech publication Tweakers, which says it spoke with “several manufacturers” during the Computex exhibition last week. No specific brands are mentioned, but they are said to be some of AMD’s GPU (board) partners. According to Tweakers, one brand spoken to expects RDNA 5 in the second or third quarter of 2027.

Another partner suggested a 2027 launch would be too optimistic, instead suggesting a “beginning of 2028” release window. AMD did not announce any new GPUs at Computex 2026, though we did see the RX 9070 GRE get a worldwide release after just over a year of China exclusivity – though its early sales leave much to be desired.
On the consumer side of things, much of AMD’s focus was on its Ryzen processors, including the new Ryzen 7 7700X3D and a 5800X3D rerelease. Even still, neither of those CPUs belongs to the latest RX 9000 series. The reveals closely followed AMD’s announcement for FSR 4.1 upscaling for older GPU architectures.
At this stage, any RDNA 5 information should be taken with a grain of salt, as it’s still very early days. Either way, a previously rumored Computex 2027 release window for RDNA 5 is sounding much less likely off the back of Tweaker’s reports. RDNA 5 is currently expected to take shape in the form of the RX 10-series, headlined by the RX 10090 XT with 36GB of GDDR7 RAM.
