Hi,
I am trying to help my sister figure out a problem she is recently having when she boots her system up. Her OS is Windows ME and it stops at the splash screen (Windows ME logo) and doesn't proceed any further. I even told her to boot in safe mode and she still got the same results. She told me that she didn't installed any new programs or anything. I'm trying to find a solution for her to figure out what the problem is.
System Specs:
AMD 750 Duron
256 meg PC100 - SDRAM
20 gig HD
I know she has kepted up with the patches from MS so I believe that is updated also.
Please assist.
Thanks.

Does she do file sharing or other downloading from the web? She may have picked up some vermin online if she does. If this is a possibility, she could run an antiviruses updated rescue disks from floppy to see if it is a virus..... It is crucial to Write Protect such disks when they are made or they can be contaminated by whatever might be in there....

This would be my first option:
Restart your computer with the Startup disk in your floppy disk drive, and then choose the Minimal boot option.
Type scanreg /restore, and then press ENTER.

Thanks for the suggestions. Her system is ok now. She recently did a windows update and I guess it hung the system up awhile. I told her to leave it on overnight and see what happens. Well 30 minutes after, the system just loaded as normal. She is running a virus scan and defrag the HD.
