View Full Version : favourite/least favourite fast food outlet

Here goes...

Actually I have two favourites and they're both burger joints representing each end of the spectrum.

Firstly, Wendy's get the nod. Combo #2 (upsized) for me everytime I'm in the city and hankering for a burger.

Secondly, on the other end of the scale is Peter's Drive-In (Calgary). Absolutely remarkable are their burgers. They have but one outlet and the line ups are astounding. Even more astounding is how fast their service is no matter how busy they are (which is always).

Thirdly, the golden arches gets the rasberry award. Do they even use real food? Ate there in 1981 and tossed the food away after one bite. Ate there again 15 years later and history repeated itself. Only place I know where billions of people must be wrong.

enjoy...

If you ever have the occasion to visit the Arches again. Note the Weight before Cooking
On display inside the building somewhere . (It’s required) .

The reason is the Beef they use.
It arrives at the processing plant in Large plastic lined boxes called combos .
Filled with 50/50 trimmings .
When cattle / cows are slaughtered the beef is trimmed of excess fat and small beef sections

During further processing ( Cut into type(Rounds, Chuck, Steak) it is again trimmed
ALL these trimmings are combined ( Stored in Combos) an shipped to whom ever will buy them.
Among the largest buyers . Burger Joints and Pet food makers.

50/50 is 50% fat 50% lean

I will bet at least one or two people will respond with
“More Info than I needed to Know”

My response
“Sorry”
But that’s Just the way it is

For the record the Arches is NOT the only Burger Joint to use this stuff..

When it comes Burger joints / Fast Food joint I’ll continue to PASS on all of them.

Worst: Mickey D's. Their coffee tastes like pamper piss and the whole place smells like it. Maybe they mop the floors with it and then make the scalding hot coffee with it. And their food tastes like cardboard. IMO (That's not to say that I partake of cardboard and/or pamper pee on a regular basis, but if I had to imagine what it tastes like....)

Best: Culvers. You can get a real burger there, and their other food is quite good as well, such as the hot ham and cheese. Hmmmm, cheese.

My wife and I rarely eat at fast food because of all the irritations that go along with dumb ass punk kids who don't give a crap about anything except taking their paycheck home. When you want to place an order, it seems that half of them are deaf. The other half are just lazy. And then there's the thought of just how clean they really are....

Over here in the UK all fast food joints are rubbish and not worth the price you pay. I have yet to find one that sells quality food.
But as for my least favourite fast food -Well this has got to be a "Soft Boiled Egg" the reason for this is that they RUN all over the place and I am to slow to catch them! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

When I lived in San Francisco the best burger joint for me was Clown Alley. ( the one next to the Paladium.) Lots of fries, big grilled burger and a beer. ( The burger is made to order right there in front of you http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif )

When I lived in Ohio the worst (and still champ after all these years) was White castle ....Yuk!

While I try to stay away from fast food as much as possible sometimes it just fills the hunger void.

Favorite is probably Taco Bell tacos - just the plain small tacos.

The least favorite is Burger King for the taste of the food and a couple of occasions their employees being jerks. I was up at the Burger King in Cherry Creek Denver, Co. and it was between breakfast and lunch hours and it was fairly empty in fact no more than 10 people inside. The dude taking orders is literally yelling at the top of his lungs when orders are ready "#412" or such. There's only 3 people waiting for orders and I'm just looking at this guy and shaking my head. So my order comes up and I'm only standing about 5 feet from this guy and of course he yells as loud as possible "414". So I yell back as loud as possible "right freakin' here". Now he gets a bad attitude. I should've walked out, I know I won't walk back in.

Do the Sliders at White Castle even qualify as Food?

I have tried to erase the memory of White castle's Food ( And I'm really giving WC a break by calling their offerings "food") from my mind.

Anyway...I was doing very well, till one day those little square burgers showed up in my Grocery store's frozen food section.

I felt like a "movie" war vet experincing a bad flashback. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Thanks for that input on the 50/50 stuff. Shouldn't come as no surprise as to how things work in that area. Thankfully the golden arches has seen the last of me for this lifetime. But they're not the only culprits as you point out. I tried BK once and they were just as bad.

My sister raises cattle for slaughter so I guess I'm spolied that way because she always slides me a few lbs of burger right off the hoof.

I admit it, I'm a beef eater!

Best: Schlotsky's - especially when they just took the bread out of the oven...

Worst - McD's by a mile...ate there twice, lost it 15 minutes later both times (many years ago, late 60's)...If even I walk by one I'm tempted to cross the street...

White Castles do qualify as food. They even have their own special food group. The laxitive group.... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif

I'll second Pete on the Schlotsky's, definately good eating! We have several decent deli style sandwich shops. My favorite is Grieners Subs, the hot ham and cheese is beyond words! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I do not eat at the burger joints anymore, and you wont catch me near a Kentucky Fried Chicken. If I want a burger I'll fire up the grill and do it myself http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

Laxative ? That’s a pharmaceutical not a food group http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
But then with a Nick name of Sliders maybe it’s not

GH...are you discussing the "Murder Burger"?

That little piece of something on a sqaure bun that defies identification, even by the best forensic labs in the country?

You actually lived to tell about eating one of them?

I have kids, so by default I must say the "Golden Arches" is the BEST, but yeah....um...it grows on you after a while...

Fast food.....think about it, if you want good food, it can't really be slapped together in under a minute form parts lying around in various devices designed to keep it hot enough so it won't kill you, and not turn it into shoe leather at the same time...(hmm, a lot to be said about synthetic materials.....)

Anybody ever have Baja Fresh (think they're only on the East Coast) or my all time favorite mexican food Papa Chano's ? As far as I know Papa Chano's is unique to the West Coast around Monterey and Seaside...

Jumbo chicken burrito as big as your forearm...was in Monterey for language school in the USMC. May move back eventually, partly for Papa Chano's...

Guess it doesn't exactly qualify as fast food, everything is fresh and tastes good...

Well I'm not real big on fast food but I like 'Schlotzskys Deli' and for Chicken 'Church's Fried Chicken' and for burgers there is a small place in Greenville Mississipi called the 'Lunch Box' that makes old fashioned burgers even grilling the bun. I have been to 'Fudruckers' They are pretty good but $$$$$$.
Don't care much for the big three 'Mac D's' 'Wendys' or 'B.K.'
BB66 I cant even imagine what 'Pamper Piss' would taste like. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gif
