OK.....this is what I was needing, you may be able to rescue the drive if you can find the firmware in bin format, and the drive has a Mediatek chipset...but I did a little looking and couln't find which chipset it has nor could I find the firmware anywhere. There exists a brute force flasher for the Mediatek chipset that makes it possible to recover from most bad flashes....
Also some drives have an extra series of jumpers that will let the DOS flash program work.....they would be located near the power connection or by the M/S/CS jumper.
Thirdly I really wouldn't spend too much time on the drive, because you can get a decent reader fairly cheap these days.....like a 32x from here $16 (+ s&h)
