What about your speakers? Are you sure they are in working order?
Checked all the connections already and went through my sound properties over and over again. But I cannot find anything wrong. I don't know if when a sound card fries, if it'll still show up under your device manager or any hardware check you might perform. If it does show up under a hardware check, is the only way to know by trying a different sound card. I'm mainly asking because I don't have an extra sound card lying around anywhere.

can you recommend where to find a good pc diagnostics program? I forget which version sound card I have. I need to know which drivers to get.
Which OS? I ask because there has been a lot of sound issues with vista.
