  • Stream Processors: 2,048
  • VRAM: 16GB GDDR6
  • Bandwidth: 288.0 GB/s
  • Memory bus width: 128-bit
  • Base clock speed: 2029 MHz
  • Boost clock speed: 2539 MHz
Reasons to Buy
  • Tons of VRAM, with a generous 16GB GDDR6
  •  Performs well in 1080p
  •  Decent performance in 1440p too
Reasons to Avoid
  • Not ideal for creatives, and you’ll need to use FSR to get the most out of this GPU
  •  Extra VRAM isn’t always well utilized
  • Lags behind alternatives such as the 4060 and 4060 Ti

If you’re after a top-performing budget graphics card then the AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT could be what you’ve been after. It features a staggering 16GB GDDR6 memory on its Navi 33 silicon with a total of 2,048 Stream Processors on a 128-bit memory bus. It’s a touch more expensive than the base model at $329, but that extra cash affords you double the VRAM for overhead in the future. Keep in mind you won’t be able to use said memory pool to push in 4K, but you shouldn’t have any issues in 1080p or 1440p. It just may mean being smart with your sliders and the implementation of FSR where needed.

In our dedicated RX 7600 XT review, we noted that the card was able to perform at well above 60fps in 1080p and 1440p natively with only a couple of exceptions. However, those games that support FSR 3’s Frame Generation should see a massive uptick from the technology when not rendering natively. If you’re on a tight budget and still want to enjoy today’s games without much compromise then this card should be able to do what you need it to for many years to come.

The main selling point of the AMD RX 7600 XT is the bump up in VRAM, which doubles the original model’s 8GB GDDR6 all the way to 16GB GDDR6 instead.

  • RTX 4090
  • Close-up of an Nvidia RTX 4090 graphics card with a visible heatsink and brand logo, showcasing its worth it features.
  • Rear IO of RTX 4090
  • RTX 4090 backplate
Best in ClassExcellent
Reasons to Buy
  • Leading 4K performance, unparalleled by any other GPU
  •  Amazingly powerful with 16,384 CUDA cores and 24GB GDDR6X VRAM
  •  Futureproofed for many years to come as Nvidia’s current flagship
Reasons to Avoid
  • You might have to keep your eyes peeled for slight CPU bottlenecks
  • Other major downsides are its extreme pricing and cumbersome size

If you want to go all out then there’s no better graphics card for the Ryzen 7 5700X than the RTX 4090. This leading GPU from Nvidia features a staggering 16,384 CUDA cores fuelling the AD102 die on a 384-bit memory bus. Simply put, there’s nothing that comes close to what this card can do in not only 1080p and 1440p, but also 4K. You will notice some bottlenecking from the older chipset, however, the available bandwidth will still be enough to enjoy the most demanding software with lightning fast refresh rates. We recommend pairing it with one of the best gaming monitors for the top experience.

Now, all that power comes at a price. You can expect to pay from $1,599 for the Founders Edition model and beyond depending on the partner card of choice. Some offerings can even reach as high as $2,000 so do your due diligence when selecting a specific offering if the ASUS TUF Gaming version isn’t for you. We’ve got one of these cards in our rigs and they really do steamroll through software, being a leading card for gaming and creators alike. Be sure to check out our full review of the RTX 4090 for more info.

The RTX 4090 doesn’t come cheap by any stretch but there’s no denying its capabilities for true 4K gaming and creativity that nothing else on the market can match.

  • ASRock Challenger OC AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT graphics card with 16GB memory.
Specifications
  • GPU: Navi 32
  • Stream processors: 3,840
  • VRAM: 16GB GDDR6
  • Bandwidth: 624.1 GB/s
  • Memory bus width: 256-bit
  • Base clock speed: 1397 MHz
  • Boost clock speed: 2475 MHz
Reasons to Buy
  • Excellent 1440p performance, reliability is key
  •  Competitive price point
  •  Strong value for money compared to high-end
Reasons to Avoid
  •  Not the best with ray tracing
  •  Problems found with launch driver crashing
  •  Slightly high power draw

The value for money of the AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT is hard to argue against. While primarily marketed as a 1440p GPU, you can definitely get playable framerates in 4K with this card thanks to its 16GB GDDR6 memory on a 256-bit memory bus. It’s armed with a total of 3,840 Stream Processors, too, so won’t show any signs of slowing down for a long time to come. You can pick up the 7800 XT from $499 making it one of the more affordable mid-range offerings, and undercutting the likes of the RTX 4070 and RTX 4070 Super, too.

That partially comes at the cost of performance as AMD’s mid-range will lag behind Nvidia’s, especially when it comes to ray tracing performance, but there’s no doubting the framerates you’ll be able to push with this card for the money. You’re also benefitting from a full 16GB VRAM meaning you shouldn’t run into much memory-based bottlenecking when pushing those ultra textures in your desired resolution. We think that this GPU is ideal for anyone who isn’t fussed about ray tracing and just wants to target 60fps and above, because it’ll fly in this respect.

You can pick up the 7800 XT from $499 making it one of the more affordable mid-range offerings, and undercutting the likes of the RTX 4070 and RTX 4070 Super, too.

Key specs

If your PC is due an upgrade then you’re going to need to look at your AMD Ryzen’s specs to boost your FPS. Fortunately, you don’t necessarily need a high-end Nvidia GeForce RTX GPU built on the Ada architecture to see a big difference. Our benchmarks have shown that gamers can benefit from utilizing mid-range Nvidia cards’ RT cores and tensor cores for DLSS and the same can be said with RDNA 3’s Frame Generation. Through upscaling you can achieve high frame rates without stuttering, too.
