What we think of the MSI RTX 3080 Gaming Z Trio

The RTX 3080 Gaming Z Trio is a very powerful GPU despite its age catching up with it somewhat. The large boost clock still allows for excellent graphical output in 1440p and 4K meaning you will get top performance from this GPU even in the latest games. However, the lack of DLSS 3 in the Ampere architecture means that it misses out on the lightning-quick AI Interpolation of RTX 4000 series GPUs that can produce such insanely high frame rates even in 4K. Additionally the 10GB of memory is very much on small size and as games are becoming more and more demanding in this department you might find the RTX 3080 ages somewhat poorly in the future. But, the Gaming Z Trio’s cooling system is excellent and will be able to sustain peak performance during long sessions without the threat of throttling. Overall this is still a very capable card despite its seniority these days and we highly recommend it for 1440p players in particular.

Considering the GPU is refurbished it’s only natural that the price be lower as they’re not brand-new components. However, to get the output the RTX 3080 can bring to the table for under $500 is insanely good, a definite recommendation from us. While it’s starting to get a little big long in the tooth and the small memory is not ideal, you’re still getting top-shelf output and cooling for less than the price of an RTX 4060!
