Your AirPods are manufactured by Apple and they are intended to work with iOS devices and Macbooks. But they are also compatible with any device that features Bluetooth capabilities since they have a pairing mode installed. That is why you can connect your AirPods to TVs, laptops, and even tablets.

Because they were not designed for direct use with a Chromebook, the pairing process might be complicated for some people that lack basic tech skills. But this is not a problem since everyone can follow simpler steps. After looking for a solution, we realized that the connection process is not clear and we decided to create this article where we show you how to do it step-by-step.

Connect your AirPods to Chromebook

Before you start the pairing process, it is recommended to terminate all the music or video apps on your Chromebook. If you have other sources that create an audio output from your laptop, disable them temporarily. There are some problems that could appear if you proceed with the pairing process when there is audio playing in the background, so it’s better to avoid them completely.

Bring your AirPods nearby your laptop and if you are ready, follow these simple steps:

Step

1

Select Menu

Select the “Menu” option from your Chromebook. You should look for a network icon situated at the bottom of the screen. If you cannot find it, look for the battery percentage and digital clock indicators. The Menu option is situated in the same area.

Step

2

Turn on Bluetooth

As the menu opens, look for the “Bluetooth” option. By default, it should be turned off. Turn this function on and the pairing mode will automatically start on your Chromebook and look for nearby devices with the same setting activated.

Step

3

Place your AirPods in the case

Place your AirPods inside the charging case. This should enable the pairing mode for them and the Chromebook will be able to detect them easily.

Step

4

Recharge earphones

While your AirPods might have a battery life of 5 hours, the Bluetooth connection can drain them quickly. That is why you should keep the charging case nearby in order to recharge your earphones.

Step

5

Check Bluetooth list

Check the Bluetooth list on your Chromebook and you should see the AirPods displayed on the list. If they are not visible, press and hold the Setup button on your AirPods.

Step

6

Keep devices close

While the pairing process is underway, make sure to keep these two devices at a close distance. Do not separate them as the connection might weaken with distance.

Step

7

Select Airpods

Select the AirPods on your Chromebook and confirm any prompts that might appear.

Step

8

The LED light from the AirPods case should confirm the successful connection by turning green. Additionally, the Chromebook should confirm the same connection with a short message.

Step

9

Listen to the audio output

These two devices are now connected and the audio output from your Chromebook will be broadcasted to the AirPods. You can also change the volume of your earphones directly from your laptop.

The connection process is now finished and your AirPods are paired with your Chromebook. If this method did not work for you, the issues that you encountered also have their own solutions. We mentioned an important step at the beginning of this article which you should have done before starting the pairing process.

Disconnect your AirPods from all Apple devices nearby. If your earphones are still connected to your iPhone or iPad, they will not work on your Chromebook. When these devices are already connected, the ability to form new Bluetooth connections is limited.

Once you remove the AirPods from the case, they might automatically connect to your Apple devices by default. This is because the Chromebook is considered an unknown or unfamiliar device. In this case, you will have to manually establish a connection every time you use the Chromebook for the first time in a day.

The AirPods can only connect to one device at a time. Currently, they do not feature multi-pairing technology and they are limited to one connection. That is why connecting these Bluetooth earphones to your Chromebook can be difficult if you have other iOS devices nearby.

Conclusion

Even though they are made by Apple and intended for their products, the AirPods are not exclusive to these devices. You can connect them to any gadget that has Bluetooth technology installed and you can enjoy high-quality audio directly into your ears. The lack of a wire increases flexibility as you are free to move around without being physically bounded to your laptop by them.

Other problems are less common, but you should still consider them if nothing works for you. Connectivity issues can make the connection unstable. This happens when you keep your AirPods at an increased distance from the Chromebook and we recommend keeping a close distance between them.
