Grab your free download of Total War: SHOGUN 2 on Steam now
Sega has decided to join in with the trend of giving away games free of charge to help people make it through periods of self-isolating and quarantine, and they’ve stepped up by offering Total War: SHOGUN 2 entirely gratis. Running until May 1, the game is free to grab from Steam, and as long as you add it to your account before the end of this giveaway, it’s yours to keep forever.
Sega gave this explanation for the giveaway:
“The past few weeks have presented unimaginable challenges to many of us, but the remarkable collective effort being made by the global community to overcome this moment of adversity has been truly inspirational.
With this in mind, we want to continue to encourage you all to stay home and save lives by extending a gift to everyone to help make this difficult situation a little bit easier.”
This was originally released back in 2011 and saw the long-running strategy series return to the 16th-century Japan setting. Total War offers a blend between a big picture turn-based strategy at a regional level, then a real-time large scale combat simulation at a battlefield scale.
Given its age, what was once a reasonably demanding game will now run well on any modestly capable gaming PC.
It’s available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, and if you grab it before May 1, it’s yours to keep for absolutely free.
Will you be taking Sega up on their offer of this game for free? Is this a good entry point for players who didn’t try this series yet? Let us know what you think.
