What is TruthGPT? In this article, you’ll find the key information about the new arrival. Spawning from Elon Musk’s desire to create an alternative to the wildly popular ChatGPT, it is an AI application with Musk’s vision at its core.

What is TruthGPT?

TruthGPT is a new GPT-based chatbot. Although Elon Musk co-founded OpenAI, the creators of ChatGPT, he has been critical of the application and company. In a tweet reply to Genevieve Roch-Decter on Twitter on Monday 17th April, Musk commented: “OpenAI was created as an open source (which is why I named it “Open” AI), non-profit company to serve as a counterweight to Google, but now it has become a closed source, maximum-profit company effectively controlled by Microsoft. Not what I intended at all.”

Musk previously claimed, “what we need is TruthGPT”. The ‘need’ is due to Musk’s view that ChatGPT was trained “to be politically correct” and so offers a liberal bias in its responses. As such, it is designed to offer “unbiased truth” in its responses. According to TruthGPT’s whitepaper, this is the result of data collected from “a broad range of both credible and alternative sources to support its claims”.

Speaking to Tucker Carlson on Fox News on April 17th, Musk called TruthGPT a “maximum truth-seeking AI that tries to understand the nature of the universe. He added: it “might be the best path to safety, in the sense that an AI that cares about understanding the universe, it is unlikely to annihilate humans because we are an interesting part of the universe”

What Can TruthGPT do?

Its mission statement says it “will encourage the growth of all user’s intellectual horizons by incorporating non-traditional perspectives to challenge the standard narrative (if desired.)”. How? TruthGPT is a chatbot and can provide apparently unbiased responses via its embedded TruthGPT web app, and also the messaging app Telegram – per the whitepaper.

A mobile app is also available for both iOS and Android devices. The chatbot offers a ‘Question Mode’ and a ‘Chat Mode’, although it is unclear what the immediate difference is in when selecting either. Users can currently access TruthGPT without registering or providing personal details like an email address or phone number, unlike with ChatGPT.

Additionally, TruthGPT is block-chain powered and offers its own $TRUTH cryptocurrency token, of which there are 1 billion. The roadmap states that going forward TruthGPT will also offer an NFT collection as well as merchandise and the opportunity for advertisers to target its users.

Who owns TruthGPT?

Although it seems clear Elon Musk was part of the inception of TruthGPT, the ownership model isn’t immediately clear. Musk did recently launch his own AI company, X.AI, but it is unclear what the connection is between it and the new chatbot-focused entity.

What is $TRUTH coin?

$TRUTH, as it’s known, is a cryptocurrency created by TruthGPT which is powered by the blockchain. The primary function of $TRUTH is as a method of payment for users to upgrade to a premium version of TruthGPT. However, in the whitepaper, it is shown that the coin also includes additional features: for advertisers; those who wish to ‘stake’ their coins to earn more; and ‘reflections’ which are passive earnings for holders from any $TRUTH transactions.
