Things to consider when buying the Intel Core i9-14900KS
Should you be considering the Intel Core i9-14900KS you’re going to need the best motherboard for gaming and the best RAM to make the most of the added power potential. For starters, you’re going to want to invest in a high-end Z790 motherboard that’s PCIe 5.0 ready, meaning allowance for the fastest bandwidth without fear of bottlenecking. This extends to the power supply as well, depending on your video card, likely a high-end one such as the RX 7900 XT or RTX 4080 Super and up.
Then there’s a far more pressing matter with regards to overclocking your CPU – adequate cooling. As with the 13900KS, the new variant has a 150W TDP, which while not as high as AMD’s Zen 4 non-3D chipsets’ 170W TDP, can still run hot. We recommend a minimum of a 240mm or 360mm AIO as a baseline, however, if you’re confident, a custom loop configuration may do the trick more effectively.
