Have you recently experienced frustrating stuttering issues in both gaming and typical PC tasks? Don’t worry; Nvidia has quickly released its latest hotfix, 551.46, addressing these problems, so RTX GPU users should no longer experience these snags.

If you haven’t experienced stuttering yet, congratulations; you may be one of the lucky few. This is mainly because this typical glitch is a highly irritating issue that makes any game you’re playing or task you’re performing exceedingly choppy, turning it into an unnecessary slog. Hence, Nvidia’s urgency in releasing this latest hotfix.

However, if you’re still experiencing it, you may need to download the update manually from Nvidia’s website. Unfortunately, those wanting to find out what caused these problems in the first place will be disappointed to learn that the Nvidia team failed to specify its root. Nevertheless, this is still cause for celebration, as the hotfix specifically targeted issues in two high-profile games: Red Dead Redemption 2 and Immortals of Aveum.

A quick fixer-upper

For those curious, here are the specific hotfix notes Nvidia provided via its official website:

  • Some users may experience intermittent micro-stuttering in games when vertical sync is enabled
  • Potential stutter may be observed when scrolling in web browsers on certain system configurations
  • [Red Dead Redemption 2][Vulkan] Stutter observed on some Advanced Optimus notebooks
  • [Immortals of Aveum] Addresses stability issues over extended gameplay

Now, in the grand scheme of things, the majority may consider this Nvidia hotfix small. Typically, GPU hotfixes are much larger in scale and deal with a bigger number of prevalent problems. However, fixes like this are always a good sign since it shows the developers are paying attention to their consumer base and whatever ongoing issues they may be experiencing.
