Following its launch at CES 2024, PC builders were excited to get an RTX 4070 Ti Super into their rig – especially as it replaced any reason to go out searching for an original 4070 Ti. Of course, we’ve gone into the full ins and outs in our RTX 4070 Ti Super review, but overall, combined with 16GB GDDR6X vs 12GB and a bandwidth of 672 GB/s and 256-bit bus (compared to 504.2 GB/s and 192-bit in the original card), you can see clear improvements that mark the latest Super models more of a fit for 4K gaming.

Power supplies are often overlooked when considering how your computer system is built effectively. However, if your PC uses a powerful GPU, such as Nvidia’s RTX 4070 Ti Super, then choosing the right power supply can be an important step in ensuring your system runs smoothly.

What are the 4070 Ti Super PSU requirements?

As we mentioned just above there, Nvidia recommends a 700W minimum PSU for both the RTX 4070 Ti Super and the original 4070 Ti, so going for a unit of 700W or 750W at least should get you covered on the power supply front. In terms of dipping above or below this figure, it could be said that if you have a CPU that uses under 100W under full load, you might be fine with a 600W unit – these recommendations might be assuming that you’ve got something like a 14900K in your rig that’s already pulling 300W. However, we advise that you aim for above minimum requirements, as when you eventually upgrade to a bigger and better card, you’ll already have the necessary power already available to you.

First up, it didn’t take us long to deduce that we think the Corsair RM1000X stands as the best PSU for builds using a 4070 Ti Super. For those with a little extra budget to spare, it won’t go amiss when investing in a solid power supply from one of the market’s best – Corsair. With a great load of power under its belt and a heap of efficiency, too, this PSU is certainly one to consider for upgrading your build. Personally, we liked it so much that in our RM1000X review, we awarded it with a lovely 4.5 stars.

As a 1000W PSU from Corsair, you can expect this PSU to have all the bells and whistles for a high-end system, and for users that like monitoring their power usage. There’s not much that the RM1000X can’t handle, and while it might seem a bit overkill for a 4070 Ti, 1000W is more than enough to future-proof you for years to come. What’s more, the RM1000X Shift is both rated by 80 Plus and Cybernetics to a Gold standard, whilst the latter also gives it an A sound rating. Powerful, efficient, and quiet: what some might call a triple threat.

Overall the RM1000X Shift is an excellent choice of power supply for your current or any future builds.

Unsurprisingly, people seem to like the performance and noise levels of this PSU, with one reviewer commenting that the “zero RPM fan mode ensures silent operation during low to medium loads”. However, one of the few things that get a mixed reception is the aesthetics, with one user mentioning how “it’s not super elegant”.

The streak of Corsair domination continues with the HX1000i power supply unit. We tested this PSU for our Corsair HX1000i review and it had exceptional performance.

To begin with, this is an ATX power supply unit measuring 180mm in length, which is slightly longer than your average ATX PSU. It is also has a platinum rating from 80 Plus and Cybenetics. According to Corsair, an 80 Plus Platinum rating means that 89% efficient at 100% load whereas a Cybenetic Platinum rating means that a PSU’s efficiency ranges from 89 to 91%. That means if you’ve overclocked your GPU and CPU, the HX1000i has enough bandwidth to handle that while saving you money in the long run as less electricity is being wasted.

It is also based on the ATX 3.0 standard, meaning it comes with the 12VHPWR connector that can deliver up to 600W to the GPU. According to Nvidia, this card’s total graphics power is 285W, so it should easily get the required power to operate normally.

The Corsair HX1000i is an overall impressive power supply, with the power behind it and a long 10-year warranty making it a desirable long-term solution. Especially with the Platinum ratings it has ensured your system running costs are limited as well.

PC Guide

For its performance, we paired it with a Ryzen 9 7950X and an RTX 3090, which, according to Nvidia, has a graphics card power of 350W. We ran Furmark 2 to put the CPU and GPU under high levels of stress, and at that load, the total power being drawn from the wall socket was recorded at 706W. We used HWinfo to check the efficiency rating of the PSU which came around 93.93% at max but wavered around 90% at idle. So, this PSU is highly efficient, and it didn’t make a lot of noise even under heavy load, thanks to its 140mm fan.

Overall, if you’ve got the budget, this power supply unit is one of the best you can get for an RTX 4070 Ti Super. This has high-efficiency levels and should be able to cater to more powerful GPUs than this.

The RTX 4070 Ti Super offers flexibility in how you build your system, and if you want to save a bit of cash while having a decent overhead, we recommend the Corsair RM750x. This is an excellent powerful with an 80 Plus and Cybenetic Gold rating. We also tested it in-house for our RM750x review and were glad to see its efficiency and noise level.

For starters, this PSU measures 150 x 86 x 160mm, which makes it easy to fit in most cases. It can even fit well in the best case for RTX 4070 Ti Super. On top of that, it is a fully modular PSU, meaning all the cables are removable, making cable management easier and reducing the clutter.

It features a 135mm magnetic levitation fan. What this means is that the fan mechanism uses magnets to reduce friction between the shaft and bearing instead of fluid. This extends the fan’s lifespan much more than an FDB fan and makes the fan almost noise-free.

In general, the Corsair RM750x is an all-around strong choice of power supply. It brings a middle-of-the-pack feature and performance that make it a strong value choice.

PC Guide

Regarding its performance, we used the same test bench as before, and those two components have a combined power requirement of 520W. The recommended system power for the RTX 3090 is 750W, which is factored in by other components as well.

At idle, the system was pulling 127W, but when we ran the stress tests for the CPU and GPU, it peaked at 706W, with the CPU taking around 360W and the GPU 200W. That said, we also looked at Cybenetics testing, and at 115V, the RM750x showcased an average efficiency of 88%, with the average sound level being 27.98 dB(A). At 230V, the average efficiency and noise level was 90.2% and 28 dB(A), respectively.

Overall, this is an excellent and powerful unit. Given its protective features, efficiency level, and cost, it is the only power supply unit we gave a 5/5 rating to.
