How to create a Snapchat group in 5 easy steps

You can easily make a Snapchat group from the Chat section of the app. All you have to do is add members, name the group, and get started. Further, Snapchat lets you add up to 200 members in a group – so you can add all your friends and still have enough space to add new ones. You can make multiple groups if you like, and your favorite ones would be marked by a peace sign emoji.

In this guide, we have outlined the process of making a new Snapchat group as well as removing a group chat from your feed.

How to make a group chat on Snapchat

Here’s how to add friends to your group chat.



Go to the Chat section

Launch the Snapchat app and head over to the Chat section.

Next, click on the message bubble icon that appears in the bottom-left corner.

Click on ‘New Group’

On the next screen, you have to click on the ‘New Group’ option.

Add friends to the group

Now, you will be able to select friends to add to the group. Note that you can add up to 200 friends in a group.

Name the group

At the top, you will see ‘New Group name’ – click on it and enter a name. When you’re done, tap on the ‘Chat with Group’ button.

Your new Snapchat group is ready. Added members can now send text messages, snaps, and more into the group chat.

How to delete a group chat on Snapchat 

If you no longer want a group chat on Snapchat, then you can remove the group from your Chat feed. However, you cannot delete a group completely. 

Here’s how to hide your group chat from your chat feed – 



Open the group chat

Launch the Snapchat app, go to the Chat feed, and open the group chat that you want to remove.



View the group details

Tap on the name of the group to view the group information. Then, click on the three dots at the top-right corner.

Chat and notification settings

From the menu that appears, click on the ‘Chat and notification settings’ option.

Clear the group from chat feed

Next, you will see another set of options – click on ‘Clear from Chat Feed’ to remove the group chat from your feed.

After this, the group will be removed from Chat. To access the group again, you will need to search for it in the search box.

If you don’t want to participate in a group chat, you can also choose to leave the group.


To sum up, you can easily make a new group chat on Snapchat from the Chat section. All you have to do is add friends, name the group, and start chatting. Further, you cannot delete a Snapchat group chat. – but you can remove it from your Chat feed or leave it if you do not want to be a part of that group conversation.
