Advancements in the tech world continue to slide in and out of the mainstream, with the latter portion of 2024 gearing up to be a doozy in terms of new releases. However, it seems some hardware is set to stay the same for the foreseeable future, with AMD APU-powered laptops reportedly keeping RDNA 3+ graphics microarchitecture until 2027 at the minimum.
That’s according to known tech insider Golden Pig Update (via VideoCardz), who stated on Weibo that “the core display of [the] AMD [APU] will remain at RDNA3+ for a long time.” Of course, this may not remain the case for long, with rumors regarding AMD’s upcoming RDNA4 architecture already beginning to surface. And with RDNA5 following closely, sweeping, albeit unconfirmed, changes could be in store. Like always, though, it’s worth keeping in mind that these are merely rumors, so take this information with the customary pinch of salt.
RDNA 3+ architecture to remain in AMD APUs until at least 2027
Now, even though some APUs will be retaining RDNA3+ architecture for a few years, you can likely expect AMD to make a few tweaks to it to keep up with the community’s demands. Of course, don’t expect anything drastic since this will still be based on relatively old software. Nevertheless, devices that feature RDNA3+ should still be highly serviceable, at least in the short term, since it is the same system AMD has featured on Ryzen 7000 Series processors.
With peak season nearing, AMD will hopefully start shedding more light on their plans for their APU models sooner rather than later.
